How did you meet? Henry and I grew up in the same city and first met through friends in the 9th grade. We would randomly see each other at events and Henry claims that whenever he tried to make conversation with me I was short, dry, and uninterested. I just remember he talked a lot but had nice hair.
Tell us about the proposal. August 12th, 2017, Henry claims he was too nervous to remember anything about the day he proposed. I remember him being awkward the entire day and kept asking how his outfit looked. I kept thinking why does he all of a sudden care about his outfit if we are just going to a wine tasting. Little did I know he had my family and some friends hiding around the corner as he said “you know this will be our last wine tasting like this.” When I saw the ring, I was literally shocked he was able to get everyone to keep a secret from me and realized why my family and close friends had avoided talking to me the entire week before.
What was the wedding shopping experience like for you? Henry: “My wedding shopping experience was pretty simple going through the Black Tux. I knew I wanted to be grown and sexy in a navy slim fit suit.”
Caryn: “My wedding shopping was difficult since I am so indecisive. I went with my opinionated Mom and two older, and even more opinionated, sisters. After two long days of shopping we all agreed that the dress I chose was the one. It was the first dress I tried on the 2nd day and I compared every other dress to it.”
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? We wanted our wedding to be sophisticated but also fun and reminiscent of our college days. With the help of our fabulous wedding planner we figured our ceremony would be modern chic and the reception would be “sophistaratchet.”
First dance song: “You Give Good Love” by Whitney Houston
Ceremony entrance song: “All of Me” by John Legend
Wedding party gifts: Bridesmaids: Personalized tumbler, wedding earrings & bracelets. Groomsmen: socks & bowties.
What is your best memory from your wedding? The best memory for Henry and I would be on the dance floor, swag surfing with all the people we love the most, our family and close friends.
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples?
If possible, try premarital counseling to get an outside opinion and perspective of how to effectively communicate. Going through premarital counseling also helped us facilitate difficult conversations such as finances, family, and how to deal with each other’s personality traits.
