Destination Wedding Inspiration from Trinidad and Tobago

If you are planning a destination wedding or simply want a wedding with an island flair, today's colorful, scenic and romantic styled shoot is going to provide you with plenty of inspiration.  What better way to commemorate the amazing vibes, people, and soca music of Trinidad & Tobago's carnival season, than with an amazing Tobago glam shoot designed and produced by  Statice Events in collaboration with a fellow Trini, Makini of Makini Regal Designs.  Melissa Heholt of Statice Events describes the inspiration behind this vibrant and sultry shoot:

Last year Makini and myself took a leisurely trip to Trinidad and Tobago, as she wanted to reintroduce me to our deeply rooted Trinidadian culture. What started out as a vacation quickly blossomed into a Destination Wedding Style Shoot infusing our culture and true passions for Event Planning and Floral & Event design. Together with some of Trinidad's extremely talented event and wedding industry vendors, we were able to produce a style shoot highlighting all of Tobago's natural beauty for a destination wedding of any bride's dream.

Being based in New York and Planning a destination wedding on the island of Trinidad and Tobago with the flair of Makini Regal Design'sstyle was a challenge for the both of us. In planning a style shoot of this caliber or any destination wedding, organization, attention to detail, and communication (even more so than planning a local wedding) were key elements in our pre-planning phase prior to arriving in Trinidad. Planning ahead for the transport of wedding items such as decor pieces and wedding attire were important especially considering the airline baggage requirements and the island's custom regulations. Tobago's beautiful beaches and picturesque landscape made the process of selecting a location stress free. For any bride interested in having a destination wedding, I recommend utilizing the natural beauty and resources the island has to offer.

Makini created a design theme and tablescape that accentuated our locations. Our dècor was a fusion of beach chic and glam. We chose a neutral palette with shades of orange and pops of turquoise and gold. The sequin chevron linen added both formality and opulence to the tablescape and was a great juxtaposition to the rocky ocean backdrop. Using indigenous flowers like anthuriums and hibiscus were a great way to incorporate the natural beauties of the island and also minimized our floral expense. We sprayed the anthuriums gold to add a unique flair to the bouquet and centerpieces. In doing so we didn't interfere with the raw beauty of Tobago's greenery and pristine beaches, producing breathtaking images and an unforgettable destination wedding.

I loved the Tobago shoot! My Dad was born in Belmont, Trinidad and so often Tobago and its glorious scenery is overlooked by the glamor of its sister island Trinidad and its well known carnival destination! I personally have never been to Tobago but your shoot made me want to ” find a groom ‘ and plan a destination wedding to the beautiful local featured in your Magazine! Beautiful shoot! Your couple, the local , the vendors and especially the photographer captured the elegance , richness and the beauty that it all things Trinidad and Tobago!!!!
