Who ever said nice guys finish last clearly needs to rethink! Demetria and Tiniki met in a computer lab in medical school. Stressed out over an assignment and clearly in need of a pick-me-up, Tiniki reached over and offered to take her to a movie to lift her spirits. Nothing could possibly be sweeter than that! Demetria clearly noticed the same thing and they’ve been at each other’s sides ever since :).

The Proposal ….. “He proposed on February 13, 2009.  He first suprised me with Hershy’s Kisses sprinkled on the floor in a heart shape pattern and a new iPod nano dressed in a pink cover.  On the iPod were all of the songs that reminded him of me. He then took me to a local spa, where I had a mani-pedi, facial and massage.  In one of the massage rooms, a large suffed bear and a jewelry box were waiting for me, but it was a trick: in the box were diamond earrings! At some time point during the day, he switched the skin on the iPod to a clear cover. I had been listening to the iPod on and off throughout the day and I hadn’t noticed. Later that evening, he took me to dinner. Over dinner, he asked me why I had not answered the question he had been asking me all day.  I became nervous.  Then, he turned the iPod over and dropped to one knee with a beautiful ring.  Inscribed on the back of the iPod was “Demetria LaShawn Yarbrough, Will you marry me? -Tiniki-”

The Wedding & The Challenges ….. “Our theme was elegance .  The planning process was challenging in many ways.  First ,we lived in two different states (North Carolina and Tennessee) and planned to get married in Virginia.  We were each transitioning to jobs located in Chicago and studying for boards.  So, traveling between so many different states made the process difficult.  The other most challenging obstacle was creating the guest list.  My husband was strict about the count and I wanted be be more liberal with the head count.  Also, contending with our choice to have only children who were part of the wedding party attend the celebration was difficult.  This did not go over well with all family members.”

The Most Unforgettable Moment ….. “Our grand entrance into the ceremony.”
