Jody + Terrica: 12 Year Anniversary Shoot Inspired by “Mr. and Mrs. Smith”
It’s not often you see an anniversary shoot…or any shoot for that matter, where the couple expresses their undying love for one another…and poses with guns. This shoot is not your typical love session. The images are stunning, the couple is gorgeous, and the guns are real. Terrica and Jody were married twelve years ago after knowing each other for only three months. Now that’s true love! On their twelve year anniversary, they decided to do a celebratory shoot inspired by one of their favorite movies – Mr. and Mrs. Smith. What a unique way to showcase your love! The First Encounter… “One summer I came home to Baltimore from college, hanging out in an area called Fells Point with a girlfriend. Jody was with a friend who was yelling at me from the passenger side of the car. Funny enough, the song “Scrubs” had been getting major airplay, too :) At any rate, I sweetly replied to his friend that I would prefer it if the driver could pull over and talk to me. It’s pretty much history from there– we went on our first date the next night, watching the fireworks at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor for the 4th of July and were inseparable ever since. He proposed two months later, we eloped a month after that and here we are twelve years, three babies and two continents later (we both travel and work overseas a lot).” -Terrica
The Proposal… ”Jody claims he was very nervous, but he played it so smooth. We went to dinner at an old Italian restaurant. Apparently, he had spoken to the staff beforehand, so they knew what was going on. After dinner, I noticed all the staff had virtually disappeared. He came over to my chair, got down on one knee and began saying what it meant to have me in his life. He popped out the ring and I couldn’t make a sound, I just began to cry! The staff peeked their heads around the corner to see what was going on because they couldn’t hear my response. Once they saw the happy faces, they emerged with bottles of champagne, tiramisu and cannoli, joking ‘We thought we would’ve had to bring out the harder stuff for him because we thought you said no!’” -Terrica
Photoshoot Inspiration…“We’ve got pretty dynamic personalities– Jody’s also an MMA fighter as a hobby and an expert marksman, so he works with me in fight training and has taught me how to shoot. We’re also highly competitive, so it’s always a race to the top with us with anything we do together. I’ve had so many people say, ‘You know that ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ movie? That’s you guys all day!’ We decided to do an anniversary shoot this year for our 12 year anniversary, so this was the perfect theme.
As a wedding planner, Brooke and I work a lot together, so when I came up with the idea for the shoot she was the only person I knew who could capture the essence of what we wanted and our personalities, too. She’s a phenomenal photographer. The only shot I wish we could’ve got was Brooke’s face when we were clearing the weapons before we started posing with them. She laughed and said, ‘It’s not every day that the couple brings weapons and ammunition to the shoot’. Yeah. That’s how we roll :)” -Terrica
