How did you meet?
We first met during undergrad at a party, then met again 2 years later at church.
Tell us about the proposal
After a day of brunch and shopping with her girlfriends, Sydney was lured to a distillery for what she thought was a happy hour before a game night. Unbeknownst to her, James rented out a speakeasy at that distillery and filled it with their family and friends for a surprise proposal. He said a beautiful speech and got down on one knee with Sydney’s dream ring. After she said “yes” they had a celebratory cocktail hour followed by an engagement party at James’ mother’s home.
Wedding Style
I decided to design my dress with Anomalie. My shopping experience was difficult because my bridesmaids and mother live in different states. On top of that, the dresses I did try on weren’t quite right. It was amazing to be able to get exactly what I wanted – a mermaid gown with intricate soft lace and subtle sparkle.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding?
YES! We jumped the broom – which is a tradition dating back to slavery and even Africa. It was a way to honor our culture and history. The broom was custom-made and is now in our living room as decor.
What is the best memory from your wedding?
Our legendary pronouncement! Our pastor made it so hype for us and you could just feel the positive energy from him and all of our guests.
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples?
Go all out and do what you want. You only get to do this once (hopefully) so make your dreams come true and ENJOY YOUR DAY!
