When it comes to picking a theme for your wedding, you should always start with brainstorming things that you love. For Nikia and Jules it was simple: Blue and Bling! Nikia explains, “Our wedding combined my husband’s love for the Dallas Cowboys and my love for all things elegant and beautiful. The colors were essentially dark and navy blues accented with silver, platinum, rhinestones, crystals, and feathers.”
Elegance was infused into every aspect of their wedding. Feather centerpieces and a feather chuppah gave their ceremony and reception space a chic yet ethereal feel. As Nikia and Jules exchanged vows, it was as if they were literally on cloud nine. Nikia shares, “There are a ton of wonderful memories from the day. However, when I close my eyes and think about the wedding, I most clearly remember making our vows under a chuppah with a cloud of feathers and silk draped around it. In that moment, I felt we were the only two in the room.”
Silver sequin table linens and crystal blue chargers brought the elegant touch of bling to their reception that Nikia desired. Their swoon worthy chuppah doubled as a stunning canopy for their intricately designed 6 tier suspended wedding cake. After dining on scrumptious soul food, guest danced the night away to New Jersey house music in celebration of the couple’s east coast roots. Surrounded by family and friends, great music, delicious food, and heavenly décor, the Jacksons were truly floating on air every second of their nuptials. We had plenty of New Jersey house music to reflect the East Coast where were both were raised. He in Buffalo, New York and me, in the Jersey Shore. Our food was curated to represent our African American heritage with a chic spin on soul food. We also incorporated cultures outside of our own by marrying under the chuppah. A symbol of the Jewish faith, the chuppah represented the public proclamation we were bonded together as man and wife under a shelter of care and respect that will keep us warm during the sudden chills Life may often spring upon us.
Wedding Advice
I highly recommend doing a “first look.” This gives you the opportunity to have a special moment together and it had a calming effect given the fast pace of the day before and after the actual wedding.
Also, we had the opportunity to take lots of formal pictures with our bridal party and family before the ceremony and we actually had a good time taking them. The DJ was playing music, the venue was being transformed and we were having a pre-party taking pictures.
