Soulmate…is your soul’s recognition of itself within another. One who completes you so entirely that even the most difficult of life challenges feel effortless simply because they exist. To find them is to know the bliss of a life fulfilled; the ability to live and be loved as your honest self, and the joy of reciprocating that love.
For “Oby” and “Gozie” their souls have found themselves within each other, and their engagement marks the beginning of their life of bliss together.

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal:
Our Love Story:
I received a call from a number that I did not recognize. I answered any way and heard “Hello- this is Chigozie”.
The rest is history as they say, but it went like this:
Chigozie went to great lengths to meet this virtuous woman after seeing her picture on social media. A good friend of his happened to have a connection to my family. Chigozie asked that friend to give him my number. Unfortunately, the friend replies, “That is my professor’s daughter and I don’t have her number!” Not satisfied with the response, Chigozie asked, “How can I get to know her?” The friend replied, “Well, I do have her mother’s number.”
Yes, Chigozie and his friend contacted my mom to ask for my number! To my surprise and unbeknownst to me my mom replied, “Send me a picture of Chigozie first.” My mom received the picture, as requested, via text and replied, “He is HANDSOME” and provided my number.
After several months of talking on the phone forming an unfathomable connection, I got to know the wise, intelligent, and kind hearted mechanical engineer and then something great happened. Friday, July 4, 2014 was the date I met my soulmate, Chigozie Okeke.
Now, nearly two years later of keeping God first and accumulating many frequent flier miles, I said, “YES” to the love of my life on July 1, 2016!
The proposal was very intimate and private. Chigozie proposed on July 1st, 2016, our anniversary weekend. I had flew in to Michigan from DC for the weekend to celebrate our 2nd year anniversary. We had just finished face timing my parents and had a special moment talking about life. Chigozie excused himself and told me that he couldn’t wait any longer and asked me to be his wife! Of course I said YES! The ring was even more beautiful than I could have ever imagined! To my surprise he had also planned for us to go on a boat cruise the following day. We sailed on the Detroit River to Windsor Ontario, Canada. Our 2nd year Anniversary weekend is one that I will never forget!
Describe your engagement session: The engagement session theme was a 2 part shoot. The first part of the shoot was a Great Gatsby themed shoot. The second part of the shoot was a traditional Nigerian themed shoot. Two Nigerians finding love in urban day United States.
What did you do on your first date?
Our first date was in Nashville, TN (fourth of July weekend). Chigozie drove 8 long hours for our first date as I (Oby) was living in Nashville, TN. Chigozie pulled out all the stops: we enjoyed a nice dinner, he cooked suya (a type of Nigeria BBQ spiced with ginger, peppers & dried peanuts =amazing) and challenged me to 1 on 1 basketball match! (By the way I won-Oby! ) The night ended with a nice stroll by the river in downtown Nashville watching the fireworks.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple?
We are both athletic and enjoying running and biking together as a couple.
