If music is really what feelings sound like as the saying goes, then Jennifer Harrison and Armand Hutton’s feelings are deep and absolutely beautiful. Their Nashville, Tennessee wedding on November 7, 2010 was filled with beautiful music – perfect proof that sometimes mere words are not enough. Their love story began in 2008 when they met through a mutual friend in Los Angeles. Armand was in the city to tape the Ellen DeGeneres Show and the Tavis Smiley Show as one part of the phenomenally unique music group, Naturally 7, which he joined during his senior year in college. More than just a band, Naturally 7 uses vocals to create sounds much like instruments; Armand is the bass member of the world-touring group that has worked with the likes of Quincy Jones and Michael Bublé. While in LA, Armand called up a friend of his to meet and hang out. That friend turned out to be a friend of Jennifer’s as well who already had plans to hang out with her. Luckily, Armand was invited to come along, and thus began an amazing friendship filled with endless phone calls, text messages, and the beginning of a loving courtship. It was in this way that Armand, the musician from Maryland met Jennifer, the brilliant pediatric and orthopedic therapist from Nashville. Their first official date took place in New York when Armand invited Jennifer to an event where the band was performing. According to Jennifer, “After that trip, we knew that more than a friendship was developing.” About a year later, Armand decided to propose where it all began for them: in New York. Enlisting the help of Jennifer’s family after he asked permission to marry Jennifer, he put his master plan together to propose, stating, “I had to lie to Jennifer which wasn’t easy. I told her we wouldn’t be able to spend New Year’s Eve together because I had a show in San Francisco but I would fly to Nashville on New Year’s Day.” His plan worked perfectly with help from Jennifer’s mother and brother. As for Jennifer, she began the day of the proposal completely frustrated: she noticed she was missing key personal items and was awakened at 5.30 AM by her video camera-wielding brother. Irritated, she complained to Armand; but her frustration turned to surprise and shock when Armand began to tell her how much she meant to him, sent her a picture of a ring and asked her to marry him via Blackberry messenger. Now totally excited, Jennifer prepared to meet Armand at the airport. Instead, she discovered a boarding pass for a quick flight to New York. There, Armand was waiting for her on bended knee in the hotel where they had their first date with a pathway of candles and rose petals. Of course, Jennifer said “Yes.” The couple celebrated their engagement with a surprise party in Nashville. The week after they got engaged, they picked their wedding date which was difficult with Naturally 7’s hectic tour schedule. They quickly began the arduous task of planning the wedding, enlisting the help of design expert Amber Housely of Sweet Life Designs as their wedding coordinator and stationery designer. The rest of their vendors, including their talented florist and wonderful photographer, worked out of the amazing wedding one-stop, Studio Wed in Nashville, Tennessee. Through most of the planning process, Armand was on tour but stayed updated on details through pictures, Skype calls and cyber meetings. The couple and their families were most concerned that all those who attended their ceremony would have fun and feel blessed. Jennifer stated, “We are a family totally and utterly in love with God and we knew that He put us together. We wanted everyone to share in that experience.” On the day of the wedding, both bride and groom prepared special gifts for each other. Knowing Armand’s love for Air Jordans, Jennifer gave him the gift of thirteen Air Jordan shoes and surprised him with a groom’s cake shaped like an Air Jordan box. Armand gave Jennifer a gift of a birthstone necklace from her favorite store, Tiffany’s, which counted as her “something blue.” The couple exchanged vows in the Riverside Seventh-Day Adventist Chapel. They chose to keep things traditional by waiting to see each other at church when the bride walked down the aisle. The borders of the aisle were lined with purple and orange flower petals in a gorgeous mix of colors as Jennifer moved toward Armand in a stunning gown with flower details and sparkly Louboutins, while Armand waited for her in a suit and Air Jordans. The music for the ceremony was beautifully conducted by musical director, Dr. Wayne Bucknor. The bouquets, boutonnières, and flower arrangements consisted of blue dendrobium orchids, hydrangeas, orange roses, calla lilies, and other flowers. There were hints of blue, orange, and pink in all the arrangements. The bridesmaids were resplendent in the color capri; while the groomsmen looked dapper in their three-piece suits and Air Jordans. After the wedding ceremony, Armand and Jennifer performed the sand ceremony, a symbol of their inseparability. Then, Jennifer surprised Armand by singing the Amel Larrieux song,“Make Me Whole”, knowing that hearing her sing would make him cry – and it did! The couple’s reception took place in the Country Music Hall of Fame. It was an ode to music and fun with musical performances by the couple’s musically gifted friends who were ecstatic to be a part of their celebration. They played instruments like the cello, violin, piano, violin, bass and drums and lent their vocals to the celebration. Jennifer’s love for bright colors was tastefully and creatively brought to life in the décor: from the orange, pink and white rose petals that bordered the runners to the cylinders of water with hydrangeas suspended in water and candles on top. There were tables with large cylinders full of pomanders of orange roses and blue hydrangeas submerged in water. There was also a tented lounge area that had couches accented with pillows, as well as small tables and suspended orbs with hung orchids. The couple added a fun element with their inclusion of a candy bar. It was stocked full of orange, blue and white candies, Jones sodas with the couple’s pictures, and cupcakes from the Cupcake Collection. The menu was a reflection of Jennifer and Armand’s love for breakfast food and were served brunch-style. Menu options ranged from cheese grits and Belgian waffles to salmon and roasted root vegetables. With so much music and fun, the couple truly enjoyed their day. “We look at our wedding day,” Jennifer said, “and wish we could do it all over again – the exact same way.”
