You know those scenes in movies in which a woman steps into an elevator, a man catches her eye, and they smile knowingly at each other because they feel an instant chemistry? Yeah, one of those “movie moments”. Well, Erin and Vetric had one of those! It wasn’t a movie set, either. These two real-life people had an important connection that day, that would color their lives from that day on.
Their gorgeous destination wedding in Hawaii was beautifully captured by Rebecca Arthurs Photography. More images are in the full gallery here.
Bride: Erin Hickman
Groom: Vetric James
Occupations: Bride – Registered Nurse; Groom – Software Developer
Wedding Date: 10.13.2012
Location: O’ahu, Hawaii
How They Met ….. “Vetric and I met in an elevator. We both worked for Turner Broadcasting; I was in marketing and he was in software development. We never worked together, we just happened to say hello to one another on the elevator. A month or so went by before I ever saw him again; but from that first introduction, I knew he was going to be someone special to me. Two months later, we went on our first date, and we’ve been together ever since.”
The Proposal ….. “6 years later, October 14th, he popped the question after a nice romantic dinner, and a walk in Centennial Park. We sat on a bench, and he began talking about how happy he was with me. Then, he got off the bench, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I couldn’t believe it!! I was flapping my hands back and forth, and flailing. He finally got the ring on my finger, and I continued to flap and flail. Then, he brought it to my attention that I had not said, “Yes,” yet. Of course, the answer was “Yes.” He is the love of my life.”
Wedding Details ….. “I wanted my event to be elegant and sophisticated with a beachy flair. Vetric is not an outdoors type of person, and I was concerned about our parents being in the sun because they aren’t accustomed to be out. So, I opted to bring beachy elements into my wedding. We had a chapel ceremony that overlooked the beach. Our printed items were all printed with seashells and nautilus graphics. The reception was in a room covered in ivory-colored drapin, with satin linens, and low-set wide flower arrangements. As a keepsake, I had sand dollar coasters placed for each guest. Our cake was a 3-tier cupcake tower with sugar orchids, pearls and seashells. All of our colors resembled an array of seashells. So, it was a blend of pale pinks, ivory, tan, khaki, pearl, and taupe.
The planning process took roughly about 9 months, and the most challenging aspect of all of it was that we were having a destination wedding; therefore, there was a time difference. In addition to the time difference, there was a different “cultural” regard for time. Some vendors took at least a month to respond to me, and some were responding sporadically throughout the entire planning process. Here on the mainland, we are accustomed to more timeliness.”
Magical Moments ….. “The most memorable part of the wedding day was our reception. We had a very small party; so, everyone danced, the food was excellent, and I just remember the room being absolutely gorgeous, and more than I ever imagined. It was one of the best parties I’ve ever been to, and this party was all about celebrating love and friendship with our guests.”
{You Make Loving You So Easy}
He loves ….. “Vetric loves my passion and drive. He is the type of person that will have his hands in a lot of different things. I will pick one thing that I love and give all my blood, sweat, and tears for it. He admires that quality in me.”
She loves ….. “I love that Vetric grounds me. There are times when I may feel overwhelmed or out of sorts, or maybe I don’t feel good enough. He constantly reminds me of my accomplishments, and how much I’ve overcome. He is my biggest supporter.”
