Real Nigerian {Seattle} Wedding: Abiade + Ernie

Abiade and Ernie aptly describe their relationship as an evolution. It has been a phenomenal evolution nine years in the making. This is a caterpillar-to-a-graceful-butterfly type of story - and the beautiful evolutions are only just beginning.

This wonderful cultural celebration was photographed by the very talented team at Lin & Jirsa Photography.

The Bride: Abiade Adedoyin
The Groom: Ernie Dore
Their Occupations: Bride – Senior Finance Manager; Groom – Program Manager
The Wedding Date: October 16, 2011
The Location: Ceremony - Hotel 1000; Reception - Pravda Studios. Seattle, WA

The Evolution ....  "Abiade is from Nigeria and Ernie is from the Caribbean...making for a great cultural mix. We often think of our story as an evolution; from a chance meeting to great friendship and then into this very special connection. We met in college at an event for international students in Oklahoma due to pure luck and a miracle wrapped up in one. We say that because it was an event we both did not want to attend but got roped into by friends. When we met, it was really uncanny because we had some really interesting things in common and it started what is now an absolutely beautiful union nine years later! Over the years, we did some pretty amazing things together: from vacations and trying new cuisines, to family functions and even everyday chores.  The things that make us so different are the very things that make us so great together. Sure, like any other couple we have had our share of ups and downs but through it all, we feel so blessed to have found each other and look forward to building our lives together as husband and wife."

The Theme ..... "For the wedding, everything we did was around a “modern, contemporary” theme. We envisioned a modern, chic, fun party, which we brought to life with clean lines, and a color palette of gray, mustard yellow and white. In terms of style, I am more into dull yet expensive looking colors; I don't like brights. I also love unique, uncommon things that not everybody is wearing or doing. Ernie is pretty much about clean modern looks. So to bring our tastes together, we incorporated these colors into the details in a well balanced way. Thinking ahead to a possibly rainy day, we chose Hotel 1000 as our ceremony venue because of its glass-encased terrace which features cityscape views overhead and a modern, steel trellis as the ceremony backdrop. It was perfect!"

The Culture .... "I am Nigerian, and Ernie is from the caribbean and even though we wanted a destination wedding at first, we ultimately decided to stay closer to home. Coming from Nigeria, it was very important to have the Nigerian traditonal ceremony which is typically held the day before the wedding. For our traditional ceremony, we went with an elegant theme with a color palette of turquise, teal and pale gold. The colors were incorporated into the traditonal Nigerian outfits and the décor."

The Most Unforgettable Moment .... "Since we had two ceremonies, there were definitely many memorable parts. The most memorable part of our wedding for us was the I Do's. They were very heartfelt moments, the first during the Nigerian Traditional and then again during the Formal Wedding. The memories are treasured because we were surrounded by our closest family who had travelled from virtually every continent to share the special occasion. It was like a fantasy, the happiest day of our lives as we officially joined our lives together as one."

{You Make Loving You So Easy}

"One thing he always says he loves about me is that I am driven. Over the 9 years we have known each other, he has admired my consistency when I make a commitment. The fact that I pursue it with such passion and conviction, putting my all in until I am successful regardless of the obstacles. He has seen it demonstrated with the things I value including our relationship, family, career, academics and even my volunteer work."

"Where do I begin? I do love a lot of things about him but one thing I especially love about him is his personality. We have opposite personalities whith his being the calmer and soothing one.I love how he is very understanding and how he takes me for who I am, and never tries to change my being.I also enjoy spending time with him as he is fun, easy to talk to and respectful. I love him!"

Congratulations, Abiade and Ernie! As you have taken this next step in the continual evolution of your journey, may your love and appreciation for each other continue to evolve - continually growing in leaps and bounds.

    Hello! This was such a beautiful wedding! I’m beginning to plan my Nigerian reception with my husband, who’s Nigerian, but we live in the States. He’s letting me decided what we’ll wear, but I’m not sure where to get our attire or if it will be better to order fabrics and have something made. If you could point me in the right direction, I’d really appreciate it!
