Though Nico and Taiese were just friends, their family and friends were positive that they were so much more. After all, with chemistry like that, what could they possibly have been waiting for? Fortunately, Nico and Taiese caught on: they realized that they belonged together – and there has never been any hesitation since then. The couple’s gorgeous wedding was photographed by Elizabeth Lloyd of Elizabeth Lloyd Photography.
Bride: Taiese Thomas
Groom: Nico Pfeifer
Occupations: Bride – Financial Analyst; Groom – Banker
Wedding Date: 09.03.2011
Location: Rowsley Estate, Scarsdale, NY
The first encounter… “We started as work colleagues and developed a friendship over 7 years. Many of our friends and family assumed that we were secretly dating during that time because we went out often. However, we only started dating after I returned from spending a few months away in South Africa and asked Nico to ask me out.”
The Proposal … “During a weekend in June 2010, I thought that we were going on a long weekend trip to Quebec. However, when we got to the airport, Nico surprised me with a trip to Paris instead! The engagement then happened on a crisp and magical Saturday night at the top of the Eiffel Tower.”
The Perfect Venue … “We were very excited to have our wedding at The Rowsley Estate of Scarsdale, New York. The Rowsley Estate, otherwise known as the Scarsdale Woman’s Club, is a charming 19th century property. As soon we set foot on this beautiful property, we fell in love with the French-inspired architecture and the peaceful ambiance. We felt it was the perfect venue for our wedding.”
The Theme … “The wedding colors were inspired by the cream and chocolate brown color palette from the Henri Bendel store; and the orange was a tribute to autumn. Given the classic and timeless location, we decided on a vintage feel for the event, the clothing and the decorations. With that said, we spent a considerable amount of time planning most of the details from among many things: the invitations, wedding website, and wedding programs, ourselves. Every step of the way, we incorporated our love of classic elegance and simplicity and my West Indian and his German heritage.”
The Details … “Not only did we have bi-lingual invitations, website and programs, we were also able to express our love of travel by incorporating travel-based elements during the reception as evidenced by the place cards, table signs, menus and giveaways. For example, the 11 tables were named after places that we had visited together.”
On Incorporating Culture … “Since I am of West Indian heritage and Nico is from Germany, we had bilingual invitations, website and wedding programs. We also expressed our respective cultures through the music that was played during the reception. My family loved the calypso and soca, his family and friends loved the German pop music from the 80’s, and everyone loved the pop music from the 80’s. A popular favorite was ‘Amadeus‘ – that was a pleasant surprise for many of our guests.”
The Most Unforgettable Moment … “The most memorable part of the wedding day was settling down together alone after the day was over and recounting the details, while reading the well-wishes that our friends and family wrote for us in our photo-guest book and wedding cards.”
