During the wedding planning process bridal showers can often fall to the wayside. Brides are greeted by the usual congratulatory banner in a mundane event space housing their closest girlfriends. Anokhi Events wanted to inspire both brides and guests to shake things up with this South Asian inspired bridal shower shoot. Photographed in the beautiful outdoor space at Summerour Studio in Atlanta, GA this shoot evokes whimsy and grandeur. I had so much fun creating this shoot with my business partner. When we think of a bridal shower we think of girlfriends dressed up and ready to have the time of their lives, but let’s face it we’re so busy these days that it’s hard to even make time to grab lunch with our close friends. On that note, we wanted to create an event that no one would forget. Our goal for the shoot was not only to have the bride feel special, but to extend those same feelings to the guests. In order to do so, we wanted everyone to dress up in something unique and that is how we discovered Aida from Etsy. We wanted the skirts to be very vibrant and festive to resemble the rich South Asian culture and she was able to provide us with exactly that. Along with the skirts, we discovered, and instantly fell in love with, these beautiful lanterns from Krystle at Lux Events and Decor. We absolutely loved her lanterns and we thought it would be very unique to use different shapes, sizes, colors and juxtapose them along the stairway. It ended up being such a beautiful setup!
For this South Asian themed bridal shower shoot, our inspiration came from our venue, Summerour Studio. Located in the heart of Atlanta, this beautiful forum has a very elegant and grand outdoor courtyard that surprisingly has an air of privacy – enough for any intimate gathering. The most wonderful thing about the venue was that there was not much work needed in order to make the space look even more spectacular. I think this goes to show that you really don’t need to spend too much money to create a memorable event.
As the space itself was very natural looking, we wanted to incorporate lush florals to bring out the originality of the location. The floral company we used was so talented that they were able to use a variety of spring blooms to bring more texture and color to our shoot. The flowers used were in perfect balance with the rich colors of our tulle skirts and the South Asian vibe we wanted to convey.
