Nothing says the beginning of a new season like the sound of heels clicking down the streets of New York, PR mavens checking you in for a preview of the latest bridal collections, and top editors seated appropriately in the front row of the most fantastical runway shows on the market. Yes, New York Bridal Fashion Week aka Bridal Market has officially begun. We kicked off what’s set to be a mesmerizing week of tulle and appliqués with a myriad of design aesthetics. Getting a look at what bridal tastemakers have deemed the future of fashion.
Our first stop was Kelly Faetanini where Narnia’s bride came to life. Channeling the supernatural wonders of the C.S. Lewis tale, looks combined drama with magic. Bridesmaids dresses were reimagined with removable skirts and dazzling dropped shoulders. Ruffled organza skirts paired with appliquéd bodices were reminiscent of the pure snow detailed in the majestic series; while tulle sweetly floated down the runway adding to the romance of the collection. A trend we’d easily learn to love throughout the day.
THEIA brought out our deep dark desires with a look in the Opium Den. The theme that lingered was 1920s venom. The poisons of choice were diamonds, Spanish tulle, and sheer Geisha gowns. It was a show for the daring and uber glamorous bride. Unconventional bridal gowns exposed every inhibition, diamonds and emerald accessories uncovered our shameless vices. Though the majority of the show informed us that unconventional is the new white, THEIA held on to bridal traditions with snow white and ivory gowns in the finest of satin.
Israeli designer Inbal Dror wowed with a 32-piece collection that had the room gasping for air. Phones went up feverishly as editors and bloggers alike snapped photos of each look. It was a titillating mix of regal gowns and seductive evening wear. High-low gowns drowned in lace flirted down the runway. In true Inbal fashion, corset like bodices hugged the top of dramatic gowns in charcoal blush tones. Voluminous tulle ball gowns showcased the delicacy of the collection while thigh-high splits paired with structured blazers provided a rose out of the concrete like juxtaposition. Similar to the daring nature of THEIA, Inbal reminded us that sheer gowns were a thing of the future in bridal fashion.
Next we were transported into the allure of the 1970s. Inspired by Kate Moss and Penny Lane, Houghton introduced a cool vibe to the bridal scene. It was the kick back, “it girl” groove that Michelle Pfeiffer gave us in Scarface. Bardot necklines, shaggy pullovers, and fringe lined the collection. The disco ball came to life in sequined mini dresses and sheer lace stood tall on platform heels. But what was truly romantic about the collection was the incorporation of sheer floral gowns, keeping the somewhat traditional bride in mind.
The magic of Marchesa silenced the room as bridal’s finest glided in for the exclusive presentation. Sheer necklines, bejeweled bodices, and flouncy skirts was the epitome of Marchesa. It was romance meets luxurious elegance for a bridal presentation that will forever be etched in our brains. Sparkling hair accessories and jewelry clung to the leafed backdrop of the woodsy scene. The soft ruffled skirts we saw in pastel form during NYFW were reinvented in white for the Marchesa bride. Each look was crowned with a jeweled headpiece that would make any woman feel like a queen for the day.
We capped off the night with ethereal beauty from Claire Pettibone. Traditional veils were tossed for stunning sheer capes with floral detailing. Seamlessly transitioning all of us to the love of what is beautifully nontraditional. Delicate hues of blue painted low-back lace gowns, redefining the bridal color palette.
Day 1 was nothing short of amazing and we can’t wait to bring you more bridal fashions and trends as we continue to take over NY Bridal Fashion Week. Our overall takeaway is that sheer is absolutely the trend for 2016 and being unique is more important than ever. Be sure to follow us on Instagram for live coverage of your favorite shows.
