Jazmine, an Internal Auditor and Robin, an Oil Rig Roughneck had a very intimate engagement session at Millennium Gate in Atlanta Station and along the nearby wetlands at Piedmont Park. After meeting through a mutual friend and some time after, experiencing not one but two proposals on the same holiday, the two have saved the date for a May 29, 2016 ceremony at Heritage Sandy Springs. Just in time for the May flowers.
Tell us about how you met and all about the proposal!
Robin and I met at a bar in Atlanta through a mutual friend. Robin was in town for a bachelor party but he was living in Birmingham at the time so although we exchanged numbers, I never expected to hear from him again. Two weeks later, he called me and we began to talk everyday during my lunch break. Soon, our lunch conversations turned into many times a day conversations and before we knew it, we were planning trips back and forth between Atlanta and Birmingham to see each other.
Robin actually proposed twice. On Christmas morning in 2014, we were putting together toys with his boys and Robin realized that he might have left some of their gifts at his parents’ house. He went outside to the car and I assumed he was going to look for the missing gifts. I continued to help the boys put together a train set and when Robin came back inside, I was sitting on the floor with my back to the door. I felt him walk up behind me so I turned around and when I did, he was standing with the ring in his hand. He got down one knee and all I remember is seeing his mouth moving and thinking, Is this really happening? I was so excited, I instantly posted a picture of my ring in my group chat.
My sister, who was in the chat, ran downstairs and told him she couldn’t believe he did it now! We were going to my aunt’s house for dinner with my family later that day and apparently the plan was to propose there with my family around but he changed the plans. My sister didn’t like that he changed the plans so she told him he had to do it again. When we got to my aunt’s house, I told him this is so stupid you don’t have to do it again. I can’t act surprised like this never happened. He decided that he would do it anyway and the funniest part is that he waited so long into the night that he still caught me off guard and I couldn’t believe that I was crying as if it were the first time all over again.
The engagement session…
When I was searching for wedding venues, the Millennium Gate Museum was one of the places I fell in love with. I was hesitant to book an outdoor only venue in the middle of high traffic Atlantic Station so I chose another venue. But Millennium was the first location that came to mind so we chose Millennium.
My fiancé loves fishing and because he’s very shy in front of the camera, a friend suggested we do an engagement shoot with a fishing theme so that he’d be in his element. He loved that idea. I told our photographer, Andre Brown, our thoughts and he said we should do both! Our shoot was amazing and he made us both feel comfortable and captured such beautiful pictures.
What did you do on your first date?
Our first date was at a Mexican restaurant in Birmingham, Alabama.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple?
We especially love traveling together and bowling.
How has wedding planning been so far?
Wedding planning has been a roller coaster ride. I was extremely happy to get started planning and then I quickly got overwhelmed. I’m very indecisive and with so many options to choose from, it was hard to stay focused and I feared making the wrong decision. My best friend got a wedding planner for us and it has made the process so much better. The part of planning that I love most is Robin providing input on what he wants and combining our visions to make one event that we’ll both love!
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day.
I’m looking forward to walking down the aisle to my fiancé as Ms. Carten and walking out with my husband as Mrs. Gamble.
