1) Tell us a little about your background and how you got started in the wedding and events industry?
It all began 15 years ago with the single ambition of living a more creative life. High-tech marketing left me void of purpose. I needed to make things. Beautiful things, funky things, playful things, crazy things…
And then one day, I made my wedding invitations. I didn’t use ivory paper. I didn’t mail them in envelopes. I didn’t apply love stamps. I broke the mold. I designed something that was personal and distinct and unconventional (a barn shingle wrapped in twine and placed in a box). It turned an ordinary experience into an expressive, authentic moment that elicited sincere excitement from our guests.
In that moment, RedBliss Design was born. It was created not only to fuel a passion, but to bring personalized creativity into others’ lives too. Life’s most special events provided an obvious avenue for this ambition and so, custom invitation design became my vocation.
2) What do you love most about the new collection, in regards to the most challenging creation that you are most proud of?
We are seeing a progression into lifestyle design where luxury is personal. Our custom designs for large-scale events have inspired a line of luxury accessories and décor for intimate dinners, private parties, and VIP events. More and more people are entertaining at home in more personal ways and we want those experiences to be just as special as the bigger celebrations.
This is what led to the creation of RedBliss at Home. The pieces in our collection were named for the ways we make connections and bring together our favorite people to entertain at home: Nexus, Affinity and Bond. We believe in and love the beauty of these connections. We encourage sharing these moments to inspire others through social media channels by hashtagging #gracioussplendor.
3) There are so many colors and styles to choose from, so what were the risks you were most excited to take while designing this collection?
In our research of existing home entertaining accessories, we found very little in the way of laser cut styles or products made from anything similar to Chroma. We believed this was an amazing opportunity to introduce our design approach to this category of home goods. And with that, comes the risk of entering into a broad arena with an avant-garde approach. However, nothing makes us happier than the words, “I’ve never seen anything like this before.”
4) What’s the first thing that left you inspired to create this line?
We have been working with a unique material for more than two years called Chroma, named for its resemblance to mirrored chrome. It is an incredibly diverse design element and its dimensional nature offers a modern and dramatic effect that is hard to match. This was the initial inspiration behind creating a collection specifically from this extraordinary material. Chroma turns traditional stationery into gracious keepsakes and home accessories into striking art forms.
5) Was it a natural decision to go into business with your sister? How has the relationship as business partners evolved your sister relationship?
Of course, anything worth doing is even better when you do it with someone you trust and admire. My sister, Dori, and I became a team with a shared vision to build a creative lifestyle that fed our souls. Over the last 15 years, we have developed a healthier respect for one another and have become each other’s champions, which is especially helpful during a challenging week.
6) Finally, what are you most looking forward to at the Coterie Retreat?
Without question, the camaraderie. Something happens when you bring like-minded, risk-takers together who crave new ideas and best practices. Bonds form, confidence rises and strategies materialize. Can’t wait!
