Destination Wedding in St. Thomas: Cieara + Clifford

When Cieara went to the movies with her best friend, she had no idea that her best friend’s cousin along for the night out would one day become her husband. After losing touch for a few years the two reunited and began dating shortly after. Three years later, Clifford proposed in a very personal spot close to them, leading to their destination wedding in sunny St. Thomas, fitting for their oh so sunny theme.

Tell us about how you met and all about the proposal!

Cliff and I met in July of 2001. His cousin, RaQuel and I are best friends. We met at the MacArthur Center movie theater in Norfolk, Virginia. He came with his cousin to the movies. After we met there, we talked on the phone and he visited me a few times in Norfolk, Virginia. Then he moved to North Carolina and we lost touch. Years later, I moved to Houston, Texas because my best friend had moved out here and a year later, he moved to Houston because his dad lived here. So we’ve been together since December 2012.

We both felt like the only reason we both ended up here was to be with each other. He proposed three years later during December 2015 at the exact same place we started officially dating. We married in July 2015 and now are expecting our first child together in April 2016.

Wedding Style

The wedding gown was the perfect princess dress with the full multiple layers of chiffon and crinoline. I loved the tiara that went with it. I felt like a true princess on my day.

Culture

Our event planner found us a handmade Caribbean old school palm broom and we jumped that broom at the end of the ceremony.

Memories

My favorite memory from the wedding is when we jumped the broom and were pronounced Husband and Wife. The sunset was also amazing and the reception room was over the top!
