After meeting online, Alyson and Mike dated for a little over a year before a holiday engagement neared. They were surrounded by family and friends on that special night and will be next fall as well. The couple took to Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA recently for their engagement session as part of the countdown to their Old City Philadelphia wedding on September 24, 2016 which is sure to be as elegant and warm as their walk through the gardens.
Tell us about how you met and all about the proposal.
Mike and I met online. After numerous emails, texts and phone conversations we met and went on our first date. After dating for over a year and a half, marriage was definitely in the cards for us, but a time frame was never really set in stone. This was because Mike really wanted to surprise me which turned out to be a harder task than he could have expected. I do not like being surprised, but he really wanted the moment when he asked me to be his wife to be the biggest and best surprise yet.
On Father’s Day, Mike secretly planned a get together at our house with both sides of the family and a few friends. I did not think anything of it because friends and family would just stop over on a normal basis. After a few hours of fun, Mike stood up and said he had an announcement and asked me to join him. A few minutes into Mike’s speech, I started to realize what was about to happen and before I knew it, Mike was down on one knee asking me to be his wife.
The engagement session: Describe your engagement session. Did you have a theme?
For the engagement shoot, Mike and I really wanted a sophisticated look and wanted it to be during the fall season. The colors are so bright and warm and we wanted the engagement pictures to set the tone for our September wedding.
What did you do on your first date?
We had a Sunday morning breakfast at Cracker Barrel and did a little bit of Sunday shopping at the mall. It was the best first date either of us ever had.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple?
We love to take occasional drives to nearby cities, whether to New York or Baltimore, and have fun days out. We also like to cruise around in our “his and her” matching Volkswagens.
How has wedding planning been so far?
Wedding planning has been fun and exciting. I knew what I wanted for the most part before we were engaged and Mike has put in his ideas and must haves as well. So it’s nice to be able to work through those ideas to build our dream wedding together.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day.
I’m most looking forward to seeing him for the first time when I walk down the aisle and marrying my best friend.
