Taking place on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Lauren and Scott’s second favorite holiday, the couple read their vows that they each wrote themselves at sunset, setting the mood for their bold, fall holiday themed wedding. An elegant affair after Scott’s horse-drawn carriage ride proposal.

Lauren and Scott met in the most romantic way possible…at the club! Scott approached Lauren and her best friend, Danae, and tried to get them on the dance floor. Lauren resisted at first but eventually she gave in and they ended up dancing for the rest of the night, ending with Lauren giving Scott her phone number.
During Lauren’s birthday weekend, Scott brought Lauren to downtown Cincinnati and surprised her with a romantic weekend stay at the Westin. After a delicious and romantic dinner, Scott took Lauren on a horse-drawn carriage ride. At the end of the ride, he got down on one knee, gave a sweet speech, and popped the question!
Wedding Style
My wedding dress was an ivory fit-and-flare with ruching in the bodice and layers of tulle in the bottom. I paired it with a jeweled belt, a layered veil, and a Swarovski crystal and pearl hairpiece. My shopping experience couldn’t have been easier! I went to Bridal and Formal in Cincinnati, OH, and Bobbi, my bridal consultant was amazing! My mother, father, and older sister all came with me for the appointment and I found my dress after only trying on about fives dresses!
Culture
We’re an interracial couple so everything is cultural for us. We didn’t overtly do any cultural rituals at our wedding but we integrated family every step of the way.
Memories
The first memory that stands out is Scott becoming emotional during the vows and holding my hands tightly in his hands. His reaction was so honest and genuine and I couldn’t have felt more connected to him in that moment. My second favorite memory was watching Scott dance with his maternal aunt as a way to honor his mother, who passed away in 1999 from breast cancer. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
Help a bride-to-be out!
The best advice I can give a married couple in planning their wedding is do whatever you want to do. Everyone, and I mean everyone has an opinion on how your wedding “should” be and it gets hard to hear your own voice over theirs. Try to keep the wedding planning between you and your spouse, don’t let wedding vendors bully you into agreeing to things you don’t want, and try to have fun throughout the process!
