It might be time to renew that gym membership. Candle and Cedric met at 24-Hour Fitness in 2012. While Candle wasn’t immediately won over, Cedric continued to pursue Candle and months later, the two had their first date. After a proposal in 2014 involving a scavenger hunt and loved ones, Candle, a Registered Nurse and Cedric, an Accountant said, “I do” in their own winter wonderland at The Hilton.

Tell us about how you met and all about the proposal!
Cedric first met Candle in 2006 at Midwestern State University, introduced by Cedric’s friend who had a crush on Candle. Their conversation lasted for all of 2 minutes because Candle was heading to nursing class. Fast-forward to 2011 when Cedric worked at 24-Hour Fitness and Candle was a member at the gym. Every Monday Candle would come to the gym to do Zumba class. Cedric remembered Candle from 2006 and came up with a game plan for them to bump into one another. He came up with a plan to be in Candle’s line of sight after Zumba class and introduce himself again. A few months went by with Cedric being persistent and in May of 2012, Candle and Cedric had their first date.
Cedric proposed November 23, 2014. The proposal started Sunday morning over a scavenger hunt. He left the first clue in Candle’s room at home to find once she woke up. The other clues throughout the day led to the first place they met, their first date, etc…, and ended back at the house. Candle walked in the house with the last clue and a blindfold waiting for her at the door. Cedric held her hand and led her into the living room where all of their family and friends were there. A John Legend song played in the background and Candle removed her blindfold and saw Cedric bent on one knee.
Wedding Style
We chose to have a Winter Wonderland theme and went with plum and platinum (silver) colors for the big day.
Culture
We incorporated jumping the broom on our wedding day to pay respect to our African American ancestors.
Memories
Gosh! There are so many beautiful memories but I would say one favorite memory is when we exchanged vows before God, our bishop, and our family and friends.
Help a bride-to-be out!
I would tell engaged couples to do what works best for them when it comes to their wedding day. Remember the love they have for one another, always communicate about everything, and most importantly keep God first.
