Usher encouraged finding love in the club, something Stacy and Randy can certainly attest to. They met in November of 2011 at Harlem Nights Ultra Lounge in Atlanta, GA. But Randy was too shy to approach her himself, forcing his cousin DJ to ask Stacy to give Randy a minute of her time. Unimpressed by Randy’s lack of confidence, she sent his cousin away with this message, “I don’t want a man who can’t speak for themselves.” DJ walked away laughing reassuring her that he’d deliver the message. “About two minutes later, Randy walked over to me and said ‘Hey, How are you doing? I’m Randy.’ I replied ‘I’m fine. You?’ Randy replied ‘I’m good.’ I replied ‘So you decided to come speak for yourself, huh?’ We took it day by day from there,” Stacy shares.
The couple got married at the beautiful South Seas Resort on Captiva Island. Using soft pink and pure white as their color palette. Pearls adorned the backs of the chiaviri chairs, giving the reception space an overall glam feel. Randy proposed to me on July 26, 2014 at the BLT Steak Restaurant located on the infamous South Beach strip in Miami Beach, Florida. I remember it like it was just yesterday. It was a spontaneous getaway for me but not for him. He’d planned everything. Flights, hotel room, couples massage, nights out on the town, and the actual proposal itself. From the beginning of the trip to the proposal, I had no idea he was going to propose to me. On that special evening of July 26th, 2011 Randy & I accompanied by some friends of ours whom by the way were married went to dinner at the BLT Steak Restaurant. Prior to our going to dinner, Randy told me to wear something a bit more dressier for the dinner. I figured it was the restaurant policy to dress in specific attire, so I didn’t inquire.
When we arrived at the restaurant and was seated by the hostess, Randy walked back to the hostess immediately after we were escorted to our table. Unknowingly of course, that’s when he was discussing with the hostess & other restaurant staff on how to surprise me for the proposal.
After ordering & eating our dinner, Randy asked me to try a dessert of choice. I chose the fresh fruit platter. It took a while for me to get my dessert due to the waiter & hostess trying to figure out a way to hide the engagement ring in my desert. However, hostess nor the waiter wanted to hide the ring in my fresh friut, therefore; I was given some fancy little cookies. Now me being the picky person I am, I picked up one of cookies to make sure the white sprinkles on the cookies wasn’t coconut sprinkles. That’s when I noticed in my peripheral vision of my right eye something sparkly and shinny on the plate of cookies. I moved every cookie from around the ring and started saying “Oh my GOD! Oh my GOD!” Simultaneously, Randy got down on one knee and asked “Stacy Jackson will you marry me!?” In tears of joy & excitement I said “YESSSSSSSSS!”
After leaving the restaurant the first person I called was my mommy, Tracy Jackson. Only to find out she was in on the surprise because Randy called her as well as my kids (McKinley & McKinya) to get their approval for him asking me to be his lifetime partner.
Describe your wedding dress. How was your shopping experience?
For my wedding dress, I combined 3 dresses into one magnificent dress. Due to my height of 4’11 and petite statue, I was overwhelmed with dress shopping in one day. Between the reconstructing/alterations of a dress and the specific designers I wanted, the price tag became very expensive. As a result, I decided to get a custom fitted gown for the expensive dollar amount instead of a store bought dress.
One of my favorite designers is Michael Costello. One evening, I was strolling down my timeline on Instagram, I came across a picture Michael had posted of a bride he’d made a custom wedding dress for. I clicked on his page to view more pictures and noticed the contact email. I decided to send a email but in my mind I’m thinking, I’m not going to get a response back at all. To my surprise, I was emailed the very next day from his sister, Jennifer Costello with great news of me being able to have Michael Costello to custom design my wedding dress.
Mermaid styled wedding dress with sheer fabric, with pearl floral beaded appliques. What is your favorite memory from your wedding day?
The sand ceremony was the most memorable. How was culture incorporated in your wedding?
Randy & I incorporated the sand bottle ceremony into our wedding to symbolize our kids (McKinley & McKinya (both are my children) & Sa’Riyah (Randy’s only child)) along with Randy and I coming together as a family. The sand ceremony allowed for each of us to pour a different color sand into one big sand bottle signifying our unity. Very colorful & beautiful memorable keepsake for our little family. What advice do you have for our brides-to-be?
Personally, I opted out of the huge wedding party escapade. The wedding process was much easier & most definitely less stressful. Our wedding party consisted of our 3 kids & each of our parents. We didn’t have to have a wedding rehearsal or rehearsal dinner which saved time & money. Additionally, Randy & I had a total of 56 guests. Having a small intimate wedding party in general allows for the bride & groom to actually enjoy the process leading to the wedding, the wedding itself, and the family and friends closest to their hearts. THE SMALLER THE BETTER!
