For Katherine and Kevin, a modern vibe with chic details was what they envisioned for their wedding day. So the perfect backdrop for the wedding of their dreams was a romantic rooftop in Brooklyn. We love the simplicity of the wedding and how their planner/designer Terrian of Dream Plan It Events incorporated bold reds to make the wedding decor pop. As a nod to their Jamaican and Bajan heritage, the couple incorporated a steel band during cocktail hour and treated their guests with rum punch and sorrel. We wish Katherine and Kevin many more years of wedding bliss. Thanks for sharing your love story with us!
Couple: Katherine + Kevin
Occupations: Human Resources Manager + Realtor
Wedding date: July 24, 2015
Wedding location: Brooklyn
How they met: Katherine was an Assistant Manager at a retail drug store and helped train Kevin after his promotion to the same position. The two began as co-workers and then became friends after learning they shared a crude sense of humor. After 4 years of friendship and a couple too many happy hour drink specials one night out with their colleagues, Kevin mustered up the courage to propose to Katherine while they waited in line for the restroom. Kevin got down on one knee to pop the question. Katherine got down on one knee with him to accept. No rings were involved just yet. They soon commenced ring shopping. After seeing what kind of band appealed to Kevin, Katherine discretely purchased one unbeknownst to him and reversed the proposal resulting in Kevin being the first of the two to adorn an engagement ring.
Incorporating culture: The bride and groom are of Caribbean descent so the menu consisted of Jamaican and Bajan favorites. A steel band entertained during the cocktail hour while guests treated themselves to popular West Indian beverages like rum punch and sorrel.
Best memories: “The most memorable moment was saying I DO. Everything melted away at that moment. I stared at my husband and only he and I existed in the world at that moment. Nothing else mattered and then a sudden calm came over me and I was ready to let loose. Leaving the venue and everyone behind at the end of the night was awesome too. I left that place a happily married women.”
Best advice from the bride: “I would advise an engaged couple to get a wedding planner who is versatile and do what works for them and not try to please people. Make it what you want it to be. It’s all about you and your partner. No one else matters.”
