“Foundation”…in all aspects of life a solid foundation is central to the support of a strong future. Love, trust, loyalty, respect…these qualities amongst others make up the foundation of a long, healthy relationship. Often in the examples of those around us we find the elements desired in creating our own relationship foundation.
For Chevonese, her “grandparents set the foundation” example of what love can achieve. And it was during their 56th wedding anniversary celebration honoring that foundation that Michael decided it was time to take the next step in reinforcing their own relationship core with a surprise heartfelt proposal.
For Chevonese it was a very emotionally moving moment, affectionately remembering how “after he went down on one knee, I started crying like a baby!”

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal: We first met in April of 2008. It was a Wednesday night and my best friend and I were planning a fashion show. We had just had such a great practice that we decided to go to the lounge down the street to celebrate. I still had on my work clothes so I only intended to stay for a few minutes. At the end of the night, as I was waiting for my friend to get ready to leave, Michael stopped me and asked for my number.
Fast forward seven years later, we were celebrating my grandparents’ 56th wedding anniversary in their backyard with family and friends. Before it was time to cut cake, several people congratulated my grandparents on their anniversary and gave well wishes. Michael was the last to congratulate them and during his speech, he stated how much I talk about how my grandparents set the foundation. He also mentioned how I always questioned us being together that long. At this point I’m looking at him like “Where is he going with this speech?” Then he said, “How can we get married if we’re not engaged?” That’s when he went down on one knee and asked me to marry him. At least that’s what I think he said because after he went down on one knee, I started crying like a baby!
Wedding Style: Simply elegant! My dress was a floral embroidered mermaid form fitting dress.
What was wedding shopping like for you? At first I went shopping with the usual entourage, mother, grandmother, aunt, maid-of-honor. After about the 3rd store I decided to go myself with my bonus child (step-daughter). I tried on maybe 3 dresses at the 3rd store when I found the one. That’s when I FaceTimed my mother to share the moment with her.
What is your best memory from your wedding? oh my goodness…there were so many to choose from. But my favorite was when we made our grand entrance as Mr. & Mrs. Wilson to “You’re All I Need” by Method Man and Mary J. Blidge. It was classic because it’s so us!
