The significance of a significant other goes beyond description…they are a constant presence in your life, even when away. Just the thought of them can lift your spirits, and to be near them is to feel at home wherever you may be… To know that at any time of day another person has your emotional and physical wellbeing at the forefront of their actions is a life complete.
For Anide and “Tache” it is clear in the endearing affection displayed throughout this beautiful art museum wedding that they have found the significance in each other to complete their lives.

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We met at a Winter Gala 2011 and over the years our paths would cross at professional neworking events held by the National Association for the Advancement of Haitian Professionals.
[For the proposal] Tache had asked me to meet him at a restaurant and banquet facility before we went out for our anniversary dinner. He had been working on planning this artist showcase with a friend (at least that is what he told me) so he went to meet with the maitre’d of the location for a walkthrough of one of their spaces. I arrived about 1/2 hour late, but when I got there I saw Tache, and there were flowers on the floor, ballons, and one of his closest friends, Yves, was playing the piano. I thought it was wonderful that he planned all of this for our anniversary (but I still had no clue that he was going to propose). He had me come in and then sung a song that he wrote for me. Next thing I knew, he gets down on one knee and proposes. I said “yes,” and a few minutes later my brother and his wife came jumping out from the coat check room. It was a beautiful and well planned proposal.
What was wedding shopping like for you? My wedding dress was a mermaid style, with applique lace. I definitely wasn’t one of those brides that enjoyed the wedding dress shopping process. I limited the search for my dress to 3 places, but I found my dress at the first shop that I went to.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? Both my husband and I are Haitian so we made sure to have Haitian music at our wedding, and as part of our dessert table we had a desert delicacy called Douce that folks were able to take home with them. In addition, for the cocktail hour we had a Haitian food station, which included griot (fried pork), rice, fried plantains and soup Joumou (squash) shooters, it was a hit with the guests.
Bridesmaids/Groomsmen gifts: Bridesmaids Gifts: Customized Robe and Bags (with their names). Groomsmen: Bow Tie set from Saks and Ralph Lauren socks (to wear for the wedding).
Favorite item on the menu: The shrimp from the cocktail hour, it was scrumptious!
What is your best memory from your wedding? My best memory from our wedding was our first dance, we dance to Ed Sheeran’s, “Thinking Out Loud” – the original version and a Haitian Compas version. My other best memory is the reading of our personal vows to each other.
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? The best advice I’d give is to make sure that you are not trying so hard to please others (i.e. family) that you forget that your wedding day and marriage is really about you and your spouse. So don’t sweat the small stuff, work within your budget and if you and your spouse agree on something that is all that matters.
