Planning the perfect proposal is the desire of every groom-to-be. Creating that all-encompassing moment of surprise, sentimentality, and romance that will be remembered by your bride-to-be every time she looks at the ring… For Olakunle, after his mother suffered a heart attack, he thought about the delicacy and “importance of life and how quickly things can change which led Kunle to realize there is no perfect proposal setting but actually proposing is what matters the most.”

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal.
We met at a mutual friends party. Initially we met July 2012 at the same friends Fourth of July barbecue, Kunle didn’t talk to me because another Guy was talking to me all night so he kept his distance. Later that year in December as fate would have it our friend had another party and we finally got a chance to connect. Kunle says I came up to talk to him, I say kunle came to talk to me but either way thankfully someone did! It’s interesting because our Moms had actually met before at church so when we first met our families our Moms already knew each other!
Kunle had been planning to propose towards the end of the year, he was coming up with ideas and sourcing out locations for the “perfect proposal.”
Unfortunately in October 2015 Kunle’s mom had a heart attack and it was a real wake up call. By Gods grace she fully recovered! During that time the importance of life and how quickly things can change led Kunle to realize there is no perfect proposal setting but actually proposing is what matters the most. On October 10, 2015 we were heading out to dinner, we took a detour to a park as Kunle just wanted to stop there and take a walk – it was the same park his elder brother got married at; Orchard Creek Park in Sugarland. We walked around for a little bit as Kunle was telling me how much he loved me and my daughter, how important we were to him and how he hopes we can spend the rest of our lives together. He got down on one, knee pulled out the ring from his sock, and proposed. I said “Yes!”
Describe your engagement session. Our engagement session was initially supposed to be the weekend of Super Bowl LI. Due to the crowds we decided to change the date to the next weekend, which was perfect.
There was no theme, we just wanted to look gorgeous and chic. We wanted a beach seen for our family pictures. Our photographer chose Discovery Green and Beach Town and we chose Sabine Street. We loved all the locations and the pictures were awesome!
What did you do on your first date? Kunle made surf and turf at his house, with rose petals around the living room and dining table and champagne to top it off. I was really impressed to say the least.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? Spend family time together, taking long walks, going to the movies, going out to eat, traveling together, cardio-Kickboxing.
How has wedding planning been so far? It has been our first major project that we have had to manage together. It was a true learning experience as we found out more about each other. We made decisions together (good or bad), discovered more of what we like and what we don’t like but really tried to have fun along the way!
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day. We are looking forward to our ceremony the most – the exchanging of vows, rings and the special sand ceremony we are having to blend our family together, we are now three hearts with one future and more hearts to come.
