Tell us how you met and all about the proposal: We were boyfriend and girlfriend in the 7th grade for about 6 days. There seems to be a discrepancy about who broke up with who, but we’ve been best friends ever since. I am still shocked that Reynold was able to pull-off the proposal without me knowing because I am super nosey, but he waited until the one day he knew I’d be distracted…my birthday. We were eating dinner in the city at STK when all of a sudden I heard Jagged Edge’s “Let’s Get Married” play in the background. I thought it was a little weird because more upbeat music had been playing all night but Reynold distracted me with a birthday card to read while he slid the waitress his phone and asked if I wanted to take a picture. Before I knew it he was down on one knee…the waitress filmed it all!
Describe your engagement session. We really wanted to celebrate the idea of “black love”, so we picked locations in Washington DC with significance in African American history. It was a PERFECT unexpectedly warm October afternoon!
What did you do on your first date? “First date” is a term we use loosely, since we’ve known each other so long but I guess our first “official” date was to one of my now favorite organic restaurants in DC called Nora. Reynold extensively researched restaurants he thought I’d like, which was hard for him because we have VERY different tastes in food (he’s a meat & potatoes kind of man) LOL.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? Watch scary movies!
How has wedding planning been so far? It’s been a lot more work than I thought, but I have AMAZING friends, family and a planner that have eased a lot of the stress. This has been a true fairytale experience and I have been indulging in every moment.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day. Having all of our favorite people in one room at the same time and TURNING UP!
