Both born in Haiti and having moved to the United States at the age of thirteen, Medjine and Stephan would one day come to realize just how much they have in common, and how truly perfect for each other they are – or as Medjine affectionately calls it, “a match made in heaven.” Their destination wedding took place on the beautiful beaches of Haiti, reconnecting with the country of their birth and family history. Hosted at the Royal Decameron Indigo Beach and Spa Resort, their soft sea-green and white themed ceremony was an intimate affair within a beautiful tropical atmosphere and surrounded by loving family and friends.

Tell us how you met. We met while Stephan was working in DC. After a few minutes of me playfully teasing him about not being Haitian, we exchanged numbers. I had a sense that he liked me, but knowing that he didn’t live in the area, I decided not to entertain the idea of getting involved in a long distance relationship, we kept things casual. We spoke every now and then during the holidays. Seeing that it was going nowhere, the calls and texting stopped until one summer night… I was scrolling through my text threads, I saw an old text from him wishing me a “Happy New Year.” Wondering how he was doing I decided to call him to catch up. We spent hours chatting about virtually everything; life, God, our Haitian upbringing, family values, etc.. We were bonding in a way that was inexplicable. The more we got to know each other the stronger our bond grew and suddenly we found ourselves falling in love.
Tell us all about the Proposal! The proposal, a wonderful surprise wrapped up in a chain of events and secret arrangements between my sister, my best friend, and my mother. On my birthday, bummed that Stephan said he wouldn’t be able to celebrate with me, I just wanted to keep things low key. It was a typical Saturday morning. I got up, ran my errands, got my hair done, visited my mom, and spent time with Fabie. We went to Ikea, out to eat and hung out a bit. Still a little down about how uneventful my birthday had turned out to be, Fabie suggested that we hang out at my apartment and have a few drinks. As I entered my dark apartment, “SURPRISE!” My friends, my cousins and my sister greeted me with festive hats and confetti! My sister urged me to go put my things down in the bedroom. When I walked in, there he was! With a huge smile on his face, delighted to see my reaction as I squeezed him and showered him with kisses. I was all smiles all night. We danced, we drank and ate in good company. It was getting late and things were winding down, so we left for the hotel for a private weekend. As soon as we entered, Stephan adorned the suite with flowers. Pedals leading to the room, on the bed and a banner that said “Will you marry me?” As I read it, Stephan was already ready to take my hand and place the ring on my finger. My heart was pounding, I couldn’t stop smiling and I was cursing like a sailor trying to process it all! Anyways, obviously I said “Yes!” A match made in Heaven…
