Tell us how you met and all about the proposal: We met at a summer internship during junior school. Initially, the interest was not mutual but he pursued me persistently resulting in a three year friendship. We began officially dating in 2005.
In 2013, I left for London to pursue a one year Master’s degree and Myron was such a huge support the entire time! I returned home the summer of 2014 and as I walked out of the airport I was greeted by my family and friends as well as my groom all dressed up in a suit! At that moment I figured it was more than a welcome home celebration and that was confirmed when he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him in front of everyone at the airport! I was absolutely shocked and a bit embarrassed to be honest, I’m not exactly the biggest fan of surprises.
What was wedding shopping like for you? Wedding planning isn’t the easiest, especially when you’re planning for two years, I changed my mind about so many things so many times and my wedding day was a far cry from the all white winter theme formal wedding that I’d set my mind on in the beginning. My bridesmaids referred to my wedding day as “emancipation day,” as they joked of how tired they were of hearing wedding plans for the past two years, but too late, they’d signed up to help me plan what I wanted to be “the perfect day.” During the planning phase Myron was called in to begin training for his dream job as a correction’s officer, this training included being sequestered for 16 weeks with minimal communication, leaving me to make a lot of decisions on my own six months prior to the wedding. With six months left and an inaccessible groom, I decided that I’d have to stop flip flopping on decisions and I began finalizing major details. My wedding didn’t have a specific theme, but I knew that I somehow wanted to incorporate lace and sequins combined with my avid love of everything gold. Despite insisting on an indoor venue because of the Bahamas’ unpredictable weather, I decided on an outdoor ceremony and reception at a gorgeous estate called Gold Blossom which met my desire for lots of space for dancing. I also chose to go with a cocktail reception rather than a formal sit down dinner, as I wanted to ensure that guests mixed, mingled and had a great time! Decor I left all up to my best friend and maid of honor who was also the wedding decorator, “champagne, ivory, gold, sequins, you figure out the rest!” For my wedding dress, like every other bride, I looked through tons of magazines and websites and even endured numerous dress fittings, until finally I decided that what I needed was something custom, a collaboration of all my ideas, coming together to create the ideal dress. My first dress was an ivory full lace beauty with a sheer illusion sweetheart neckline accessorized with a simple gold and champagne rhinestone sash and emerald green jewelry. I’m not a heels girl, so I opted for some comfortable embellished flats. My second dress was also lace, just showing a little more skin with a sheer illusion back and mid-section. As if my groom being sequestered wasn’t enough the 16 weeks passed – the training was extended to an undetermined date! Way to send me into a panic with the wedding two months away and no release date in sight. Ultimately the training lasted for six months, resulting in Myron having to request leave to attend our wedding! He graduated and was released one week later.

What is your best memory from your wedding? The best one is so hard to choose when I have so many, overall my wedding day was exactly what I wanted. A fun atmosphere with a small and close group of family and friends, good food, lots of dancing, lots of laughter and a groom after the whole training debacle! If I had to choose though, the most memorable moment would be when all of the groomsmen jumped into the pool ending the night with a splash!
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? My advice for every couple planning a wedding would be, do it YOUR way. There will be a lot of opinions and some may be helpful but ensure you play out the day as YOU always imagined.
