Bride & Groom: Jomaire & Anthony
Location of Wedding: Lake Como, Italy
Wedding Date: September 26, 2017
After avoiding serious relationships in law school, Jomaire was now a single, hard working attorney spending more time at her desk than socializing. By 2013 she was now ready to “test the waters” when a friend suggested signing up for an online dating service. Apprehensive at first to pursue online dating, Jomaire thought it over for a few days before giving in – deciding to give it a try and created a profile. Within an hour she received dozens of messages but one stood out from the rest. Curious, she quickly opened it and was surprised to find an impressive profile featuring a “creative” and “witty” person with a clear love for traveling abroad. Their shared interests were an absolute plus and his personal interests would certainly be great topics of conversation.
Two days later and they were on their first date which ended up being “perfect in every way!” Over dinner and drinks the conversation flowed, and their connection was as natural as it was immediate. They continued the evening with a stroll through the park – neither wanting the night to end. Their first date was perfect, lasting seven hours and as Jomaire fondly recalls, “we’ve been inseparable ever since.”
After three years of dating, Jomaire was planning an elaborate 80s-themed roller-skating party to celebrate the end of her twenties. What she didn’t realize was that Anthony had special plans of his own. On the Monday following the roller-skating party Jomaire left the office to what was supposed to be a “low-key, no-frills dinner.” Anthony and Jomaire walked into the restaurant where they were invited to meet the chef for a private oyster tasting. Following the tasting, Anthony guided Jomaire to a doorway telling her it leads back to the main dining room. To her surprise, when she entered the room it was full of her favorite people. Anthony then took her by the hand, leading her to the middle of the room where Anthony serenaded her with a three-piece jazz band. Cameras flashed as he dropped to one knee and asked her to spend the rest of their lives together as husband and wife – there wasn’t a dry-eye in the room.
In Jomaire’s words, she knew Anthony was “the one” when she “realized how much I had grown and would continue to grow by virtue of the caring and compassionate person that he was, and the example that he wanted to set for us, our relationship, and future family. His dedication to being a wonderful human being is equal parts envious and inspiring.”
Best memories: “The entire day unfolded like a fairytale! From having my mother assist with all of my day-of preparations and saying our vows in the most beautiful location we have ever experienced, to celebrating the intimacy of our vows and union with our closest family members – every moment was truly special.”
Advice for engaged couples: “Enjoy the day but plan for the marriage! Our journey to the aisle was driven by a few priorities that emerged during our wedding planning process – including homeownership and personalization. We encourage engaged couples to understand their short term marriage goals and lifestyle choices. That way, your wedding and the money you spend on it don’t adversely affect your foundation as husband and wife – and are less influenced by external pressures that don’t make the marriage anyway!”
Quick facts from the bride:
Our ceremony location, Villa Balbianello, was used for the James Bond film “Casino Royale” and a movie in the Star Wars franchise. Our reception venue, Villa Sola Cabiati, was closed to the public for decades – but a rare glimpse inside the property revealed frescoed walls, priceless tapestries, lush gardens, museum-quality artifacts, a bed slept in by France’s Napoleon and Joséphine Bonaparte, Renaissance-era pottery, and a rare collection of violins that had been painted black for Marie Antoinette’s 1793 funeral.
Wedding party gifts: We surprised our family with a Venetian boat tour of Lake Como the day after our wedding! The tour included Villa Cassinella, one of the most prestigious private villas of the lake, Villa Oleandra and Villa Margherita – which belong to George Clooney – Villa Fontanelle at Moltrasio – the residence of late Gianni Versace – and Villa D’este.
Favorite item on the menu: There were so many gems – from lobster in a creamy pepper sauce to veal with foie gras and black truffle – but the Millefoglie Italian wedding cake with fresh cream and berries blew us all away!
