Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We met on eharmony! Alecia was a newbie to online dating and like most made sure they met in a public place; had a friend on speed dial; and an exit plan if she was to be “catfish’d.” Fortunately, Tyrone was a complete gentleman the entire date.
Tyrone knew that he was going to propose for several months. He had purchased the engagement ring about 6 months before he proposed. He was trying to find the perfect time and place to propose. Unfortunately, their home was burglarized, but the ring was hidden well and the thief didn’t find it. This unfortunate event made Tyrone realize he needed to propose sooner and thought the perfect place was in the home they shared with each other. While Alecia was at work he cleaned up the apartment, prepared dinner, and put on a night suit. As soon as she came home he got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife.
How did you know they were “the one”? Alecia: “Medical school can be really tough on an individual and a relationship. Tyrone was incredibly supportive! When I had to study he found something to read. When I had to be up in the middle of the night to head to the hospital – he was there. Not to mention he is incredibly loving and the most genuinely kind person I know. I knew I wanted him to always be in my life.”
Tyrone: “For me, I knew Alecia was the one when I could be myself around her. This was most evident when I had a bad cold and she took care of me; this was pretty early in our relationship.”
What was wedding shopping like for you? Wedding shopping was hard for me because I was on a completely different coast from my family when I found my dress. My dress was a trumpet lace gown by Allure and from Vows Bridal Shop in Watertown, MA. Tyrone wore a Navy Blue tuxedo from The Black Tux.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? Yes, we jumped the broom!
Wedding Party gifts: Kate Spade wallets & Cufflinks and Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey with Gingerale.
Favorite item on the menu: Our red velvet wedding cake from Bouche! It was delicious!
First dance song: “Mo Better” by Raheem Devaughn
What is your best memory from your wedding? The best memory was just prior to our wedding because we got to do a first look. It was so nice to spend time with the most important people in our lives just before we said our “I do’s.”
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? Take this time to learn to work together. This was a great time for us to learn to really be clear with each other what we felt was important and make sure that the other person’s opinions/desires mattered. Do premarital counseling! Lastly, focus on enjoying your day. Not everything goes exactly as planned, and that’s ok!
