Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We met in graduate school in Atlanta, GA through a mutual friend. Sharvil was starting second year of pharmacy school, and I was beginning my first year of the Biomedical Science master’s program. I moved from Miami to Atlanta not knowing a soul except one friend from undergrad, who was Sharvil’s roommate at the time. Sharvil and I first met during orientation week and the story writes itself after that. Clearly very attracted to each other, we found many reasons to constantly meet up for coffee, study in the library, etc. It didn’t take us long to realize that we had found each other’s matching puzzle piece. After countless nights of talking, laughing, learning about each other’s families, goals and much more, it was pretty clear that we were each other’s best friend, soulmate and everything in between.
If there’s one thing we can’t stop talking about is my love for Miami and the ocean. I went to high school in Key Biscayne and I hold the memories and experiences I had there very close to my heart. So on July 13th, 2017 after 4 years together, embarking on our second year of long distance, Sharvil boarded a plane to Miami, ready to swoop me off my feet. Before we started long distance I made Sharvil a scrapbook filled with pictures, mementos, and souvenirs, so he had something to look at and relive our adventures. Whilst we relaxed on the beach, Sharvil suggested we look through the scrapbook and so we started flipping through beautiful memories of our relationship. I turned to a page which I didn’t make which had the most beautiful vow to love and care for me forever. I looked over (still not knowing what’s going on) and there was my handsome fiance, sand on his knees, wind in his hair and a beautiful rose-gold ring in hand. I had NO idea this moment was coming and was in the most exhilarating shock ever! Of course I said yes! It was the most PERFECT, intimate, and personal proposal ever. He knew exactly what I liked and planned; an out of state proposal. As cliché as this sounds, I’m truly the luckiest girl to have found Sharvil and cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with him!
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? We are just a silly couple who can’t stop laughing and loving our life together. One of our favorite things to do together is spend our Sundays cooking fun extravagant meals, streaming NFL/NBA or a movie while catching up on the lastest week and planning our future together. We also love spending time with our family/cousins and are so lucky to live so close to them.
How has wedding planning been so far? Our parents and family are our greatest gifts and I don’t know what we would do without their support. They are thrilled to be involved and have taken on any help I ask for, while still respecting what Sharvil and I want in our wedding. We have a beautiful venue, and the most perfect photographer, so what more can I ask for! While Sharvil and I are both Indian, he is Gujarati and I am Tamil – our two cultures have similar foundational values but slightly different customs and traditions. This ranges from language to food to wedding practices. It’s been so exciting to learn and merge our traditions and cultural practices together. It’s also been so special for us to see our parents develop a relationship with each other while planning details of the engagement party and wedding…and really just coming together as one family.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day. We are really looking forward to celebrating with our family (a significant amount flying in internationally!) and friends. We can’t wait for everyone to meet each other and bless us to start our new life together. I do have to add though…I constantly daydream about the FIRST time I can call Sharvil my husband and to become a Mrs. Mehta.
