Nicole and Reginald first met at just twelve years of age, but it wouldn’t be until college when they truly got to know each other that the sparks began to fly. They both realized they were in the presence of “the one” when throughout their relationship they could always rely on the other to be there for love and support, no matter what the situation. Their favorite wedding moments include meeting each other at the end of the aisle, and dancing the night away with family and friends in celebration of their love.

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We first met when we were 12. He was interested in a friend of mine so she talked me into going with her to talk to him at the basketball court. I was bored and kept wondering when we were going to go swimming! We reconnected again when we attended the same college.
The weekend he proposed we were attending our college homecoming. He pulled me aside and proposed in private. Then we shared the news with our friends and celebrated with everyone.
How did you know they were “the one”? Reginald: “I realized Nicole was the one during my junior year of college. My parents came down to school because I had broken my wrist playing recreational basketball. Nicole was taking care of me and making sure that I was taking care of my injury. My parents invited her to dinner with us. I am the youngest of four boys, and my mom’s pride and joy, and for her to be okay and trusting Nicole to take care of me when my parents left me at school…I knew I had a keeper.”
Nicole: “I am not sure how I knew he was the one. There wasn’t one moment. There were a series of moments. One of the first was our first date, which didn’t happen until almost a decade after we met. That’s when I knew he was special. We planned to do the typical more and possibly dessert after. I let him talk me into seeing a scary movie, but when we got there the power went off on the entire block – in downtown DC! We had both already eaten so we went for a walk in the national mall. We talked for hours. I realized I was very comfortable with him and there were no awkward silences. Ever since we have enjoyed going for walks together at night and talking.”
Describe your wedding attire. We planned on a tight budget so my dress was actually from a small local consignment shop, and one of our most cost effect purchases (which I am very proud of). I loved the experience. It was the third dress I tried on. I knew it was the dress when I cried. I was NOT expecting that. I went with my now mother-in-law, my mom, and my little sister. The guys wore Vera Wang suits that Reggie picked out early in the process when we walked by a clothing store and I talked him into trying things on on a whim.
What was wedding shopping like for you? Shopping was fun, but we also didn’t do a lot of it. Many of the elements were handmade, including my bouquet by my mom, and the bridesmaid flowers by myself. Dress shopping for the bridesmaids was stressful, because of the different opinions and personalities. In the end, it all worked out very well.
Wedding Party gifts: The bridesmaids received matching robes and groomsmens’ gifts were purchased while on our honeymoon in the Dominican Republic. They really enjoyed the mamajuana (a local drink).
Favorite item on the menu: Shrimp and Grits
First dance song: “After All is Said and Done” by Marc Nelson and Beyonce
What is your best memory from your wedding? Reginald: “My best memory from the wedding was dancing with my wife and family. The feeling of genuine love and happiness Christening the atmosphere. The vibe was unmatchable and everyone had a good time.”
Nicole: “I loved the first moment I stepped out with my dad and stepdad and saw all the smiling faces. When I saw Reggie, he looked so happy and overwhelmed. I will never forget the feeling of walking towards him with all the support and love surrounding us.”
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? The best advice we would give engaged couples is to always communicate and consider your partner’s feelings in all that you do. And never stop laughing.
