Tell us how you met. We all grow up with a certain image of how true love will one day take control of our lives but if you’re like us, the method chosen by love remained unknown until that special moment. For us, that moment came via a very unique mode of dating at the time which was an online social network. We both found that our background, heritage, culture, values, goals, and aspirations were almost perfectly aligned.
Tell us all about the proposal. We had a European trip planned with our mothers and it included stops in Paris and Rome. We had a scheduled lunch at the Eiffel tower and after lunch, Antonio suggested that the family take pictures with the Eiffel tower in the background. After walking the distance of two football fields and passing multiple opportunities for a photo with a perfect Eiffel tower backdrop, he found the perfect spot and got down on one knee. Immediately, what I thought was a random photographer, hopped out of the bushes and began taking pictures. It was a complete surprise and I immediately started crying tears of happiness. It was only appropriate that the proposal took place in front of the Eiffel tower in the City of love. This made it a poignant moment in all of our lives. Simply unforgettable.
Describe your engagement session. The theme was centered around our favorite hobby which is traveling. In 2 short years we visited Mexico, Puerto Rico, Thailand, China, Brazil, Argentina, Italy, France, and we planned a destination wedding in Jamaica. We thought an engagement theme of an airport with the backdrop of private jets would be a good idea. We took it one step further and had a modern theme as well as a vintage theme to add some contrast and to sum up a relationship built on traditional values with a modern flare. Our photographer, Kareem Virgo of Reem Photography, brought our vision to life with incredible precision.
What did you do on your first date? Our first date was at Buffalo Wild Wings (I’m sure you’re not thinking that this is the perfect first date spot). At the time, it was equidistant from our homes and it was the grand opening of the establishment. The restaurant was just the location where we realized that this date could develop into more than just wings, fries, and beers. The evening flowed beautifully. We were engaged in conversation for four hours covering every topic from food to history to family. We realized that we had many things in common including our Jamaican heritage, similar life experiences, attending rival colleges (UF vs FSU), and had similar life goals which would become the bedrock of our relationship: family, travel, and marriage.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? We have a strong affinity for travel. Initially we wanted to travel to see the 7 world wonders, which we hiked the Great Wall of China and saw Christ the Redeemer in Rio, but then our trips centered around random exciting places such as Bangkok and Phuket in Thailand as well as Reykjavik, Iceland. We also enjoy eating delicious, unique foods in all settings including hole in the wall restaurants to fine dining experiences then testing out our culinary skills by duplicating our favorite dishes. Finally, we enjoy throwing theme parties where we entertain our friends and family.
How has wedding planning been so far? The wedding planning has been extremely exciting. We’re both trying to put our spin on the process and to keep our family and friends engaged as we finalize the arrangements. We are committed to ensuring that we enjoy our biggest day and that our guests walk away with memories of one of the best weddings they have ever attended.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day. We’re looking forward to making our union official in the company of those that are closest to us.
