Bryant, interviewing for a new position in New York City, knew that he had to make his move soon, and asked Ashley out on their first date. From that evening on their hearts became inseparable as friendship blossomed into love. Over the next three years their relationship remained long-distance between NYC and Washington DC, while Bryant planned their perfect proposal…

Tell us how you met. We have our first job out of college to thank for bringing us together. After many years of working together and becoming friends, Bryant confided in me that he was in the process of interviewing for a job in NYC. Determined to not let it stop our chemistry, Bryant made the first move, asking me out for rooftop cocktails and dinner. The next few months were spent with lots of laughter, DC-centric dates and barely leaving each other’s side. At the end of that summer, Bryant moved to NYC while I stayed in DC. For more than three years, our relationship grew over long distance alternating weekends up and down the Northeast corridor and quickly becoming Amtrak experts.
Tell us all about the proposal. After three years of dating, Bryant planned an elaborate proposal on June 10, 2017 in Washington, DC. He told me that he would be in DC that weekend for a design conference – which was actually happening – but in Miami, FL. Ourfamilies were in on the surprise and Bryant secretly coordinated for his parents and brother to fly to DC to meet my parents and celebrate our families becoming one.
After months of coordination, he lured me to a pre-planned spot on the C&O Canal with the promise of viewing an art exhibition that was part of the “conference.” Instead, he got down on one knee and popped the question. Bryant’s brother played the role of paparazzi hiding near the proposal site to snap pictures and video as it happened. The rest of the weekend was spent with lots of family bonding and post-engagement celebration – and Bryant’s relief that the months of sneaking around had come to a successful end!
Describe your engagement session. I really wanted the engagement session to reflect the vibe of our wedding with lots of black and white. I also wanted it to feel urban and very DC. Our photographer, Nichole, immediately understood what I was looking for and selected some great locations that showed off DC’s amazing architecture.
What did you do on your first date? We went for cocktails at P.O.V. at the W Hotel, followed by a walk along the National Mall at sunset. We ended the night with dinner at CoCo Sala.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? We’re big foodies. We love trying new restaurants and cooking at home is one of our favorite activities.
How has wedding planning been so far? Weirdly not stressful…yet! We’re both big planners so staying ahead of the curve has been helpful in keeping us stress-free! It’s been really fun selecting the details that will help make our day super special.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day. Having all our friends and family in one place at the same time is going to be really special and memorable for both of us.
