Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We met in 2009, junior year of undergraduate school at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX.
It was a surprise proposal while on vacation in Mexico, June 2017. I was expecting a proposal to “eventually” always take place during the fall season, which is my favorite, and is also nostalgic because that’s the same time of year we met in 2009. So, proposing unexpectedly during the summer months was a major shock but the feeling of it being a genuine surprise was so magical. There was a photographer and everything!
What was the wedding shopping experience like for you? I had always really appreciated a classic ballgown or a-line style dress — think Oscar Red Carpet. I think they are so stunning and timeliness (and Belle from Beauty & the Beast is my favorite Disney princess and was my first best friend), but never thought I could pull it off because I’m so petite — 4’11ft tall! I did try on all silhouettes and never felt right in the dress I thought I would always wear, which was the ballgown or a-line style…but I felt INCOMPARABLE in the dress I said yes to, which was a Martina Liana mermaid wedding dress.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? Noelle’s mother is half Korean, and her grandmother whom is full Korean, wore a Hanbok, which is a traditional Korean dress for formal occasions and celebrations. It was really sweet to celebrate and represent some of my cultural roots and the Hanbok went with our wedding color palette.
Ceremony entrance song: “Crazy In Love” by Beyonce
First dance song: “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran ft. Beyonce
What is your best memory from your wedding? The best memory from my wedding were the speeches from parents, Maid of Honor and Best Man. They were SO good — funny, honest, nostalgic and heartfelt.
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? You’ll more than likely find opportunity to get stressed or irritated at some point during the planning — whether it’s the guest lists or your wish list — but remember, the experience is honestly what you make it! It all really goes by fast so cherish the “engagement season.” We recommend pre-martial counseling and/or mentorship from couples that will pray for you, encourage you, hold you accountable and remind you why you are getting married and what the wedding day is actually all about.
