Kearia and Marcus’ love story first began after crossing virtual paths on Facebook – immediately feeling a natural connection that continued to grow with every conversation that revealed how much in common they shared. Having just relocated from Louisiana to her new job in Washington DC, their relationship began long-distance. In Kearia’s words, “Despite being 1,200 miles apart, we both felt such a unique connection and knew in our hearts, that what we were feeling was a love like no other.” It wouldn’t be long before Marcus began planning their perfect proposal…

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. Our love story began in December 2015 on the oh so popular, Facebook! We immediately formed a bond of friendship. Our relationship continued to develop through our love for God, family, traveling, and of course, each other. At the time, we were doing long distance as I had just relocated from Louisiana to begin my career in Washington, DC. However, that did not stop the bond we shared from blooming. Despite being 1,200 miles apart, we both felt such a unique connection and knew in our hearts, that what we were feeling was a love like no other. Fast forward about a year later, and I relocated back to my roots, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Our relationship began to unravel even more as I was now closer to Marcus. Over time, as we shared many laughs and made more memories, it was evident that we were “the one” for each other. It turns out what I thought was just a dinner with my mom, actually ended up being a surprise proposal. Marcus made it a point to have our closest family and friends to gather to witness such a momentous occasion. When my mom and I entered into the lobby of the restaurant, we were caught off guard when we saw Marcus standing there. As we made our way to the private room, I became excited and anxious. When entering into the private room, we were greeted with a big, “Surprise” by the ones we loved the most. The room was beautifully decorated with flowers, candles, white balloons, and of course, CAKE! As Marcus began to profess his love for me, my emotions took over. He dropped to one knee, pulled out a beautiful ring, and asked me to marry him. The smile on my face said it all as I responded with, “YES!” I remember thinking repeatedly, “am I dreaming?” It was such a surreal feeling.
Describe your engagement session. The theme of our first look for our photo shoot was, “Love is in the Air.” I knew I wanted to incorporate our love for travel and the significance of our first time meeting in person at the airport into our engagement session. So, what better location than the private airport hangar. We went for a formal and elegant look for this take and followed it with a more casual and fun feel at the ice cream parlor. I was inspired to have pictures taken here because when we lived an hour apart, we would always go on an ice cream date before one of us traveled back home. It’s something we both always looked forward to as it would lighten the mood before we had to part ways. Our photographer selected the last location which was outdoors where we were surrounded by nature.
What did you do on your first date? On our first date, we rang in the New Year together. We kicked off the night at Cadillac Ranch in National Harbor, MD where we enjoyed some good food and company. We ended the night at the NYE service at my church, Alfred Street Baptist Church.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? Our favorite thing to do is travel; preferably cruises.
How has wedding planning been so far? I was one of those obnoxious females who had their dream wedding planned out before the big question! Now that the time is finally here and planning is in full swing, I’m pleased to say things are falling right into place.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day. We are looking forward to living in the moment and embracing our wedding day, as we celebrate with our family and friends who have traveled near and far to be with us.
