Gorgeous Garden Wedding in Historic New Orleans -Munaluchi Bride

Jordan and Deuel first became aware of each other on Instagram when Jordan noticed Deuel in her cousin’s picture of a group of friends. After inquiring about him through her cousin, Jordan’s phone number was passed along to Deuel. A friendship quickly formed from there and in four months their relationship became official. Their love has stood the test of time, even at one point having continued their relationship long-distance for two years, ultimately bringing them closer together – both realizing they had most certainly found “the one.”

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We met through Jordan’s cousin. One day after Deuel added Jordan’s cousin on IG, Jordan came across a photo with Deuel and her cousin and a group of friends out one night. She asked who Deuel was and her number was given to him and it took off from there. Jordan and Deuel were friends for almost 4 months before making it official and have known each other for 5 years now. Two of those 5 years were long distance while Deuel was still in school in Louisiana and Jordan left for medical school in NY.

Tell us about the proposal. We will start off by singing “All I Do is Think of You.” Deuel surprised Jordan with a proposal at his graduation party themed “Harlem Nights.” Jordan didn’t think twice when her family came into town for his graduation since they had been dating for so long and both sides of their families were already so close. At the time of the night where it was time for everyone to congratulate Deuel with speeches at the end he thanked everyone and decided to show a video. It first appeared like him and his childhood friends were clowning and playing around until she saw him go into the jewelry store, it was then obvious what was going on. This video has been viewed over 10 million times on the internet.

How did you know they were “the one”? Jordan: “The first moment that I realized that he was the one was when I saw him interact with his family for the first time. It was evident that his nephews and nieces looked up to him and loved him and was apparent how much love he had and how invested he was. It was important to me to have someone that I could have a relationship with but build a future with and know that they would be a great father and leader of our family.”
Deuel: “I knew she was the one when I found myself setting goals to better myself, to be a better person for her. No one ever made me want to do better, without ever asking or telling me to do better. Her goals and dreams pushed my goals and dreams to new heights. And to this day, I am still pushing every day to be a better person for her.”

What was wedding shopping like for you? Jordan: “Shopping for me was very stressful it was very important that my dress had a certain look. I was all about a ‘romance’ when planning the wedding and I wanted my dress to embody that as well.”
Deuel: “I went for a more modern look going with a navy suit instead of a tux. Shopping wasn’t really difficult, I had an idea in mind and made it come to life pretty easily. I wanted my suit to really reflect the rich color of the flowers and décor that we selected.”

Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? It was important
for us to go back to New Orleans where we met to get married because New Orleans was such a part of our beginnings as a couple. Too many festivals to count, various Mardi Gras, and many Saturdays in the park drinking daiquiris with seafood boils. Most importantly many of our friends and family were in or surrounding New Orleans.

What is your best memory from your wedding? The ceremony (although nerve wrecking) and exchanging our vows was my favorite part of the wedding.

What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? Constantly remind yourself (write it on a sticky note if you need to on your bathroom mirror). This day is about YOU TWO and your union. Not about your family, friends and their wants and desires. Many times during wedding planning it can quickly turn into being about everyone but you two and you may have to reel it in.
