High School sweethearts, Marguell and James grew up in the same neighborhood where they attended school together.
Foregoing receiving a ride to school, James would choose to take the bus for another opportunity to speak with Marquell. As they continued to get to know each other over time the fondness of their hearts grew deeper with every encounter. In 2012, James asked Marquell to be his girlfriend, and in Marquell’s words they’ve “been inseparable ever since.”

Tell us how you met. James and I lived in the same neighborhood and went to the same high school. Although his mother was a teacher at the school he would ride the bus just so he would be able to talk and be with me – and the rest was history! He ended up asking me to be his girlfriend in 2012 and we’ve been inseparable ever since.
Tell us all about the proposal. I graduated last May and James proposed right after in front of all my family and friends. We had discussed getting married before but I was shocked he did it on graduation day! The proposal actually went viral on Twitter and made it to the Today Show!
What did you do on your first date? Our official first date was to the movies. We always laugh about this because it was before James had a car so we rode in his moms Chrysler Mini Van but we couldn’t care less because it was our first time out together alone.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? I would say our favorite thing to do together is to travel and go out to eat. We both love trying new foods and seeing new places so whenever that opportunity presents itself we make sure to go!
How has wedding planning been so far? Wow, it is truly been much more difficult than I originally thought it would be but very exciting at the same time! I’ve been looking forward to this day for such a long time so I want it to be perfect but at the same time I’m learning to balance and not stress as much. I recently hired a wedding planner so prayerfully she’ll be able to take a lot of the load off of us since I’m still so busy with grad school.
What are you looking forward to most on your wedding day? I would say the biggest thing I’m looking forward to is just having all of my friends and family in one place! With James and I getting older and becoming busier it’s difficult to just see everyone and spend time as we did in college. Our wedding night will almost be like a family reunion because we have many mutual friends and our families have known each other since high school!
