After being introduced by a mutual friend, Takasha & Gregg’s dinner and karaoke date left them both realizing “that love was sparked that night on the mic.”
A standing ovation from the other restaurant attendees for their duet of “Secret Lovers” was certainly enough of a sign that their connection seemed like more than just your usual blind date – it felt meant to be. Over time those feelings of a destined love continued to grow stronger. Knowing he had discovered the one in Takasha, Gregg found the perfect opportunity to let his heart sing with a romantic proposal ballad of Lionel Richie’s “Lady” in front of their church congregation…

Tell us how you met. We were introduced by a mutual friend February 1st, 2017, that thought we would hit it off due to our gift of gab and similar beliefs. We met at Nottingham’s for dinner and karaoke night in Columbia, Maryland. After finding out that we both had some singing skills, we agreed to sing a song that Takasha suggested. Our first song was, “Secret Lovers” of which we got a standing ovation and we were told that we were the cutest couple. We laughed so hard, then high-fived each other, sat down and both realized that love was sparked that night on the mic.
Tell us all about the proposal. We created a flow in which we celebrated our love and meeting each other every 1st of the month. After a year I wanted to sing Lionel Richie’s “Lady” to propose to her. After waiting months for the right time, a window of opportunity made itself available on September 29th, 2018. A couple from our church was celebrating their 40th anniversary. I asked if I could sing the song to Takasha and propose. The couple agreed and had others sing songs of love as a tribute, to not draw suspicion to me singing. So when I called Takasha upfront to be my person of interest, she was completely unaware of what I was up to. I sang “Lady” and proposed to her at the end of the song. Totally astonished, she and the entire audience went up with celebration and congrats. I put a ring on it! We captured the entire experience on video, and put it on YouTube and sent it to our families.
Describe your engagement session. We were beyond excited to finally be photographed by our talented brother and friend Chip Dizard. Chip’s created some magical moments on camera, that took our breath away. Friends and family raved about the beautiful photos so much, they asked if we ran off and eloped. We came up with two themes that Chip photographed perfectly. The first session at Federal Hill was labeled, “City View”, the King and Queen, Gucci style. The second session at the Cylburn Arboretum was labeled, “ Royalty in the Gardens” with 207 acres of a gorgeous historic grounds, a mansion, and gardens.
What did you do on your first date? We went to a restaurant called Bonefish Grill and talked for hours, closing the restaurant. Then sitting in the car listening to music and star gazing at each other, then we kissed for hours! Coming up with our own catchphrase, “ I turned out liking you more than I anticipated.” We fell in Love!
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? We enjoy praising and worshiping God together. Morning prayer and conversations from the heart. Singing old-school jams, sporting, and musical events, spending time with friends and family and traveling when time permits.
How has wedding planning been so far? The planning of our wedding has had many challenges… we’re constantly finding things to do and schedule. We’ve gone from a wedding date of June 22nd to October 26th. A guest list of 175 to 100. A wedding party of ten, to a party of six. Finish construction and sell the old house and buy a new one. We will reach our goal!
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day. Takasha: “I’m looking forward to our first look at each other. Reading our vows, before God and our families. The kiss! Our reception; dancing the night away with my King, and exiting the building for our honeymoon.”
Gregg: “Celebrating the union of us and sharing it with loved ones and family.”
