Jennifer and Edward’s journey of love first began as co-workers in Washington DC.
Though their connection and chemistry was immediate and genuine, sharing much in common, life took them in different directions. It wouldn’t be until eighteen years later that their paths reconnected at a social function where the strength of their connection picked up right where it left off – feeling just as natural as the first time they met. Jennifer and Edward were forever joined as husband and wife in an elegant estate wedding in historic northern Virginia. Continue reading all about their wedding experiences.
Bride & Groom: Jennifer & Edward
Occupations: Groom: Senior Vice President & Director of Information Technology
Wedding Date: October 20, 2018
Wedding Location: Warrenton, Virginia
How did you meet: Edward and Jennifer started this amazing journey in the late 1990s. They worked at KPMG in Washington, DC. They met on Jennifer’s first day while Ed was setting up her new computer and phone. According to Jennifer, Ed was ever so charming! They shared many interests but their love for music was paramount. They listened to music for hours while talking about their loves – Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. Jennifer and Edward’s connection and chemistry were genuine, but life took them in different directions. The couple has very different versions of the story of “what happened next” but they both agree the rest is history! The couple lost touch for over eighteen years. They reconnected at a social function and their love story continued from that day forward. Jennifer and Edward are blessed to have three children (combined) – Kennedy (12), EJ (11), and Natalie (6). Their three children are their greatest gifts from God! The five of them are living their best lives in Virginia where they spend their days and nights doing what’s best for God, their family, and each other.
Tell us about the proposal: Edward recorded a video of himself asking Jennifer to marry him. He played the video throughout the sound system in their house when Jennifer came home from work. She walked into the door and heard the video playing of his voice. It was a magical moment.
Describe your wedding style: The goal of the wedding style was classy and traditional. Jennifer wore a strapless gown that she added dramatic rhinestones to and Edward wore a classic black tuxedo. Jennifer tried on several dresses and she had a special feeling about the one she selected. She was sure to make her shopping experience a family affair. She included her parents, sister, daughter, and mother-in-law.
Wedding Party Gifts: I had two very special bridesmaids – my sister Ailsa Burnett, and daughter, Kennedy Bailey. I gave my sister a bracelet that represented our Sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. I gave my daughter a necklace with joining circles representing the unbreakable mother and daughter bond which is what she and Kennedy will always have.
Entrance Song: “You For Me” by Johnny Gill
First Dance Song: “Here I Go Again” by Glenn Jones
What advice do you have for engaged couples? I think it is important to remember this is one of the most special days of your life. Plan your wedding day to your unique style and make sure you incorporate items and events that are special to you and your family. Engaged couples should make sure they spend quality time discussing all the aspects that potentially impact married couples – communication, finances, having children, etc. Communication is key to a successful marriage. Lastly, make sure you have fun and lots of it!
