Being a part of the same social circle, Erica and Greg were initially introduced by Erica’s cousin.
It wasn’t until two years after that introduction that they considered dating. After a few weeks of messaging, the sparks began to fly as they looked at each other in a new light. A magical first date only continued to increase those feelings and it wasn’t long before their relationship was made official. Erica and Greg jumped-the-broom in a classic elegance wedding in historic Atlanta. How did you meet? Greg and I met in 2010, a few years before we “officially” started dating, via my cousins’. Greg is best friends with my cousin, and we would frequently see each other at social events, birthday parties, etc. Although we know each other socially, we never considered dating until 2012. Fast forward to January 2012, after a few weeks of DM’n each other on Twitter, Greg decided to ask me for my phone number so that we could continue our conversation over the phone. We talked on the phone every day for two months before we had our first date in March of 2012. A few months later Greg and I made our relationship status official, and the rest is history.
Tell us about the proposal. In January 2018, after dating for over 5 years, Greg decided to make me his fiancé by preparing a very special proposal at his company’s annual black-tie ball. During the event, Greg went on stage to give a very heartfelt speech about his love for me. When I heard my favorite wedding song, “You” by Jesse Powell, I became overcome with emotions. Greg called me on stage, got down on one knee, and asked me to be his bride! It was perfect!
Wedding Style: My vision for our wedding was a glitz and glamour themed regal affair. Our wedding colors were rose gold, ivory and champagne. I wanted all of the decorations to be elegant and simple with a touch of drama.
Describe your wedding attire. My dress was absolutely breathtaking! I picked a stunning blush, mermaid gown by Allure Bridals. It was form-fitted with a sweetheart neckline and a ton of beading. Getting a blush dress was an amazing idea. It looked beautiful with my venue and décor.
What was the wedding shopping experience like for you? Dress shopping was so much fun! In general, I love shopping, so, shopping for a wedding dress was a dream come true. In fact, once I found “the dress” I didn’t want to purchase it because I wanted to continue dress shopping.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? Greg and I jumped the broom! We thought it was a nice way to nod to our heritage. As we know pre-modern day our ancestors in the Southern US were not permitted to legally marry, so jumping the broom was their way to commemorate the marriage. We loved the thought of adding this as a way to pay homage.
Wedding Party Gifts: Bridesmaids – robes & sandals to wear on the wedding day. Groomsmen – engraved flasks.
Ceremony Entrance Song: “Here & Now” by Luther Vandross
First Dance Song: “Beauty” by Dru Hill
What is your best memory from your wedding? My best memory from our wedding is definitely dancing all night with our friends and family, I have not danced that much in years. When the song “Swag Surf” came on, everyone at the entire wedding ran to the dance floor. Our DJ was the best, we definitely had a PARTY!
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? Enjoy the process and relax! No matter what goes wrong during the planning process, you are still getting married and that is all that matters. On your wedding day, make sure to pause and take it all in. It goes by like a blink of an eye.
