“They say that the heart knows when the search is over, and this was the sweetest truth for us,” Mira recalls of the night she and Michael first met.
It was May of 2016 in Washington DC when their eyes locked from across a crowded room, “we knew that this was something out of the ordinary.” Their first date would further validate that sentiment when while enjoying a stroll through Georgetown they didn’t realize they were holding hands until someone commented on how cute they looked as a couple. Michael and Mira look forward to “relishing the moment” of their wedding this April in beautiful Baltimore. Read all about their love story and romantic New Years’ Eve proposal.

Tell us how you met! We met in the heart of DC on the night of May 14th, 2016. There were many people in the room but when our eyes locked, we knew that this was something out of the ordinary. They say that the heart knows when the search is over, and this was the sweetest truth for us…
Tell us your proposal story! New Year’s Eve 2018 was our very first New Years’ Eve together in our 2-year relationship as my norm was to travel abroad to spend it with my family. I had planned for us to go to church that evening and Michael was making his long commute from Virginia Beach to spend the occasion with me (we’re long distance!). When he was about 1 hour out, he called me and said, “so babe, since you say that I’m not spontaneous enough, I actually made dinner plans for us instead.” I thought the gesture was super cute and accepted the change. I expected that we would have gone to a local Baltimore restaurant, only for him to reveal he got us reservations at the Ritz Carlton in DC, wow! I figured that since it was New Year’s Eve he was in a celebratory mood. The dinner was amazing and the mood was intimate and so special. When we were finished around 11:45 PM, I had intended that we would go to meet some of our friends to bring in the new year, but instead, he blindfolded me and led me to a room adorned with rose petals, balloons and a beautiful sign that read “from Miss to Mrs.” On his knees, the love of my life asked me to be his forever wife, and out came my friends and family to share and celebrate the magical moment with us!
Describe your engagement session. I was very intentional about our engagement session capturing the eloquence, artistry and simple excellence of our style and personalities. We are very complementary in taste so it was very easy for him to flow with the idea and in the shoot. We had visited the Walter’s Art Museum previously and loved the aesthetic, and Rye Street Tavern is one of our favorite Baltimore restaurants. My model friend Bukola recommended Ayo Stephens based on his eccentric and eclectic photography style and upon reviewing his Instagram I knew that it would be magic!
What did you do on your first date? We had Saturday brunch at Founding Farmers in Foggy Bottom DC and strolled through Georgetown. We didn’t even realize that we were holding hands until someone commented on how cute we looked as a couple.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? Traveling and exploring new restaurants and entertainment options.
How has wedding planning been so far? Honestly, amazing. I would do this again every year. I’m planning it myself and luckily, I’m a natural administrator (this is also my profession in healthcare), thus it really has not been tasking for me. Michael is refreshingly detailed oriented, has fine taste and we both have just had the best time planning together. Our families have also given us space and support to make decisions and we have the most excited and invested friend group ever. We’re 2 months away and I almost don’t want it to end yet!
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day. The feeling of being the bride. Relishing the moment with the love of my life. I want us both to be in our own worlds, slow time down and savor every second and feeling that we experience on that day. I want to remember how special I felt forever. Everything else is secondary!
