“‘Can I see your phone?’ Oddly, I just handed him the phone, he entered his number, gave the phone back, and walked away,” Martine recalls of the day she met Delton.
Delton’s bold move landed him the woman of his dreams. The couple, who met in the food court of a mall in Maryland, soon found out they had a lot in common. They were both leaders in their Greek Organizations and had fond memories of living in Florida. After that spontaneous moment, they became very intentional about dating. They decided to reconnect in Jacksonville, FL, and have been together ever since.
After Delton proposed during a vacation in Colorado, they began planning their engagement shoot. They had three outfit changes during their engagement session to reflect three themes: Mind (their colleges and Greek Organizations), Body (Sensual and Sultry), and Soul (two free spirits that love the water and going with the flow.) We love the results.

How did you meet?
The way we met has to be one of the most random scenarios. I had just moved back to my hometown of Jacksonville, FL after being gone for seven years. A month later, I decided to take a Girls’ Trip to the Maryland/DC area. The group decided that we needed to make a quick mall run and grab lunch in the food court. This is when it gets good!
A couple of tables over there was a group large of men wearing various assortments of purple and two of them came to our table to strike up a conversation. Not only were they from Florida, but they were members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc from MY HOMETOWN! I put my head down to eat and looked up and there stood another one right next to me. He said, “Can I see your phone?” Oddly, I just handed him the phone, he entered his number, gave the phone back, and walked away. The rest of our story unfolded in Jacksonville. Everything in that moment was out of our character, but I have to believe it was God’s Plan!
Tell us your proposal story.
The proposal took place in Steamboat Springs, CO on a group trip. Delton and I had a disagreement that early evening. What I didn’t know is that he was purposely trying to anger me. The plan was to have a night on the town, but I said to myself “I don’t think I want to be here 6 more days.” The only reason why I had a change of heart was because it was his best friend’s last night with us. Delton brought his camera along, which was his usual behavior. At the end of the night, he asked his best friend to take pictures of us in the snow. After a few poses, I looked down, and he was on one knee.
Describe your engagement session.
Mind- College graduates and leaders in our Greek Organizations
Body- Sensual & Sultry (Polka dots)
Soul- We are two free spirits that love the water and going with the flow.
What did you do on your first date?
Our first date was rather interesting. After initially meeting, we spent a lot time talking on the phone and texting. This particular time while I was away on a Girls’ Trip, Delton promised to take me for ice cream for our first date upon my return. Of course, I did what any excited girl would and I rushed back to Jacksonville anticipating my date the whole five-hour ride.
I called a few times to let him know I would be back soon for our date–no answer. The sun went down and no call from Delton. I decided to call it a night. He finally called and I was uninterested, but he insisted on still taking me out. What is open at 11 pm on a Sunday you ask? Denny’s! The rest was history : )
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple?
When I asked my future husband this question, he simply said, ” Be around each other :-)”. He couldn’t be more accurate! We love doing everything together, but more specifically — watch the Food Network, travel, try new activities and restaurants. Date night is still a must after all these years!
How has wedding planning been so far?
Wedding planning has been eventful and exciting! There are times when things get really stressful, but we always remember the end goal. The most important thing is to enjoy each step of this process. We are looking forward to sharing this special day with all our loved ones and beginning our life as husband & wife.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day.
The groom- “I’m looking forward to seeing my beautiful bride for the first time on our special day. “
The bride- ” I can’t wait to hear his vows and watch the day unfold.”
