Grab your tissues because today’s feature proposal is going to make you misty eyed.
Guy’s original plan was to propose to Lita a few months ago at his birthday party, but COVID messed it all up! So, plans were changed.
Instead, he decided to propose to Lita during a family photoshoot and incorporate his four sons (and the rest of the family!) into the master plan since she’s been such a big influence in their lives.
Guy’s entire family lives in Dallas, so the couple decided to make a trip to the south for Father’s Day. Being that Guy’s family is so large and spread apart in different cities, they haven’t had professional family photos done in almost a decade! So his little sister, photographer Tyra Fernandez of Tyra Took It Photography decided to set one up at a beautiful lake in Grapevine on Father’s Day evening.
Trya recalls,
So, the plan was to take family photos as normal and save Guy & Lita’s photos for last. Midway into taking their photos, I (Tyra, the photographer and Guy’s baby sister) told my family to take Guy’s sons for a “shirt change” (this was the code – we were all in on it!). I placed Guy & Lita to where they wouldn’t see the boys until I was ready for them to. When the boys were ready, they called Lita’s name and excitingly pointed to their shirts that read “Will You Marry Us?” Lita’s reaction was PRICELESS!!! She was COMPLETELY surprised, as her and Guy had recently talked about marriage not being a huge necessity for them. After she said yes, the first thing she did was walk over to the boys, embrace them, and tell them how much she loves them. And you’ll see the whole story play out in the photos!
Guy and Lita live in Los Angeles, CA with Guy’s four sons, with Lita being a wonderful bonus mother. He is a well-known stunt man in the film industry and she is a health and fitness influencer and celebrity trainer (@followthelita). Read all about the proposal from Guy and Lita’s perspective below.
Tell us your proposal story.
The most beautiful and memorable part of Guy’s proposal was that he had the help of his four boys join him in asking me for my hand. My bonus sons.
It was the perfect set up, and I suspected nothing! Father’s Day sunday came, and the entire family gathered at a public park for a photoshoot. This shoot would include his parents, siblings, their spouses, and all the children. We prepared to take photos in different configurations, Guy’s parents, the siblings, the girls, the boys, his brother and wife, his sister and her spouse, everyone took turns in front of the camera. The later part of the day, Guy, the kids and I were up. Again, we would coordinate various shots, Guy and the kids, the kids and I, all of us together, and it ended with just Guy and I. As the kids left the scene, unbeknown to me, they hid, changed into new T-shirts, while Guy and I finished our last portraits together. Shortly after I hear their voices scream my name. I remember whipping around and looking for them and I spot them immediately. After having to adjust my eyes, I recognize that the four of them are standing in sequence, wearing T-shirts that read WILL-YOU-MARRY-US. My heart froze, I whipped around to look at Guy’s sister, who was our wonderful photographer, I was clearly confused. I then looked at Guy, who had been sitting behind me the entire time and I caught him smiling mischievously. I think I froze again before throwing my face into my hands, beginning to sob.
All I remember is looking up to find Guy on bended knee, with a ring in his hands. The kids had come down from the hill and joined him as he said his piece and asked me so beautifully to marry him, to marry them.
I was a blubbering mess, but said yes. I mean, who turns down a man they love with his four sons by his side?! Disguised as a family photoshoot, I suspected nothing. With his entire family present, we shared the most beautiful moment of my life. I felt truly blessed, and above all else was thrilled the kids participated in the proposal. I wouldn’t have wanted it to happen any other way.
What did you do on your first date?
We first met outside of a Whole Foods market in Manhattan. After a quick exchange of “hello’s” I invited him to join me in the grocery store, he accepted and we ended up grabbing dinner and eating it upstairs in the store together. Although it was unplanned and very sporadic, I consider this our first date because it felt like one. So, our first date was shared across a dinky table, eating Whole Foods pizza and sipping on kombucha, exchanging common interests and being wowed by the coincidence of such a random meeting of two strangers. Oh, and he offered and paid for my groceries too!
How did you know they were the one?
On our first date, I remember sitting across from Guy, having a very deep conversation about life, our goals, our dreams and how much we had learned from past experiences. There was something super familiar about his energy and demeanor that made me feel at home with him, like I had known him for years. Mid sentence, as I’m telling him about something (I cannot remember what specifically, because what he did next cast a memory blank on whatever it was I was talking about) he leaned in and said “come here”. With his hands outstretched towards my face, I just assumed he had paused me to interrupt the moment with a romantic kiss, and so naturally, I stopped talking and leaned in. To my horror, he grabbed my forehead and squeezed a pimple that was apparently situated right between my eyes! Mortified, I froze, then he casually said “it’s been bothering me all night, okay, continue,” he leaned back and insisted I finish my thought. I knew then, oh, this one is a keeper.
We’re all about the bling, tell us about that ring?
My ring is simple, beautiful and one that Guy designed from scratch with his jeweler. A pear shape rock, surrounded in a halo of diamonds. It’s perfect.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple?
Without a doubt, travel! We love to travel abroad and see, experience and immerse ourselves in different cultures. I had traveled extensively in my 20s, Guy had not. So, sharing worldly experiences together lends itself to new shared experiences for the both of us. Our favorite destinations so far have been Sydney and Paris. We have plans to visit Indonesia and Greece together in the near future.
How has wedding planning been so far?
Non existent, haha! We are too practical to drop money on having a traditional wedding. Personally, I’ve never been the girl to fantasize about having a grand wedding, I think Guy appreciates that about me actually, haha. We’d much rather invest that money into purchasing a larger home for our growing family. Both Guy and I agreed that celebrating our union would be done best as a big casual party among our closest friends and immediate family, perhaps in our backyard! With everyone we love in one space, great music and entertainment, and our favorite foods laid out, we think it would make for the perfect recipe of our kind of celebration!
