Another week, another Coterie spotlight! This week, Feyisola of Statuesque Events is our shining star. This Engineer turned planner has grown her company three fold in just a short period of time. In this interview, she’ll share some of her top tips for brides-to-be, as well as some cool things you may not have known about her.
Tell us a little about your background and how you got started in the wedding and events industry?
My background, funny enough was in Computer Engineering. Probably not what you expected to hear, lol. But with my many technical and service association memberships and leadership positions, I found myself planning and organizing multiple events every month and loving it! I prayed long and hard about it, and then decided to go full force into event planning and sharpening my skills. I enrolled in the Meeting, Conference and Events Certification program and NYU, began building my online and brand presence, and the rest is history!
What did you do before Wedding Planning/Designing?
IT Consulting. I was focused more on the project management side of technology…..and it actually made for great skill building for managing weddings.
What are your dreams for your company?
My dream is to groom independent wedding planners other than myself in each of our service areas and to have a showroom in each area as well. For now I am very happy working with every one of our brides, but when I get older, I’d love to help other planners make it, and manage them at my firm.
What do you love most about your job?
I love being a part of the “first day of the rest days of the couple’s lives.” Its a beautiful thing to see two become one, and the joy on their faces. I love being the reason that they can focus on that love and joy, instead of the day’s logistics.
In your area what are some of your favorite venues and why?
In the DMV area, my favorite venues are The Newton White Mansion, which is great for intimate receptions for people who need traditional caterers, as well as The Madison Hotel in Washington DC, which just screams luxury. In the NY/NJ area, my favorite venue is The Skylands at Randolph because it has its own absolutely lovely campus which is perfect for post-ceremony pictures, as well as a lovely interior featuring a spiral staircase and other luxury items for a great reception.
What trends are you seeing with 2013, 2014 brides?
The main trend that I’m seeing is more creative color schemes which I LOVE! In the past, I’ve had to coach (and almost beg sometimes, lol) for brides to select more than one “color” as I usually do not consider white, or metallics to be exciting theme colors. These days, brides have been giving me very creative colors to work with, and I’m excited to bring them all to life this summer and fall!
What would you say to brides-to-be who are on the fence about hiring a wedding planner/designer?
I usually ask my brides to think about two things. First I ask them to think back to a wedding which they attended, and for some reason hated, and why. Then, I ask what they envision feeling and focusing on during the wedding day. The fact is, most people hate weddings which are disorganized, with a disheveled bride who is also playing the part of planner/regulator. Most brides also want a worry free day, and not to focus on if the flowers were delivered on time, and if the reception is ready. As a bride, you are likely are spending a lot on your wedding, and will only be married once, so it is absolutely worth the investment to hire someone who will keep everything on track so that you can have happy memories for that day.
[pullquote3 quotes=”true”]It’s important that you are the guest of honor, not the planner at your wedding.[/pullquote3]
Why should brides choose you as a planner/designer?
Brides should choose us to plan and design their wedding because we are very passionate about our work, and give every wedding 100% beforehand, and 150% on the day of. In addition to past experience, I also have formal event management and design training from some of the industry’s top professionals and instructors at NYU. Last, but not least, brides should choose Statuesque Events because other brides in the past have chosen us, loved us and recommended us to others! A sample set of our reviews are on our website for your reference as well.
Now let’s have some fun!
