Shani and Brandon wanted to represent their love for their hometown of Brooklyn in their engagement shoot.
So, they worked with their Sequoyah Daniel Photography to shoot at different locations around the borough! To top it off, they decided to add their children to their engagement shoot as a blended family! Shani shares, “Our theme is ‘A Brooklyn Love.’ We are proud of where we come from, we are proud of who we are, and we are honored to be black millennials who love Christ, love each other, and love our family. We wanted nothing but love and laughter to be authentically demonstrated through our photos. From the Biggie jerseys and Jordan’s to the locations (Brandon growing up on Fulton; Shani growing up on Flatbush), to the Brooklyn bridge everything serves a purpose to embody our love.”
Their love for each other and their city shines through in every picture. See all of the details below.

Tell us how you met.
After reconnecting a friendship, we became each other’s biggest supporters and biggest fans. Shani attended Brandon’s basketball games and scrimmages. Brandon ensured that Shani was supported through all life events. We made time for moments of Joy and Laughter; from going out to eat to Shani’s favorites such as Cheesecake Factory and Cantina. To going to Brandon’s favorites such as 760 Rooftop Saturdays. It wasn’t too long for Love to enter their rhythm of Joy and Laughter.
How did he propose?
On Valentines Day, February 14th, 2020 (their anniversary) Brandon proposed to Shani (surprising her and friends in Atlantic City) ready and committed to make her his forever loving wife… and through Laughter and Love, we are beyond excited to embark on this covenant before God of true Unconditional Love.
What did you do on your first date?
On our first date, we went to Sea in Williamsburg after a snow storm. Snow was everywhere; it was a very cold Valentine’s date. But yet a very loving Valentine’s Day. Brandon had yet to try Thai food and Shani was excited to share all of her favorites (as always). The ambiance was romantic and fun. We both enjoyed the food and drinks. We laughed under the disco ball, gazing in each other’s eyes, feeling the romantic vibrations of the evening as the small canoe in the middle of the restaurant graceful passed us creating mere ripples of love in the water.
Describe your engagement session.
Our theme is “A Brooklyn Love.” We are proud of where we come from, we are proud of who we are, and we are honored to be black millennials who love Christ, love each other, and love our family. We wanted nothing but love and laughter to be authentically demonstrated through our photos. From the Biggie jerseys and Jordan’s to the locations (Brandon growing up on Fulton; Shani growing up on Flatbush), to the Brooklyn bridge everything serves a purpose to embody our love. And we are beyond thankful that our children continue to reveal their love for Christ and one another through their own gestures, styles, and forms of communication; as well as taking pride in their culture and growing identities.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple?
We LOVE Food. We truly get excited about food. We enjoy trying new restaurants, we love exposing ourselves and our children to other cultures through food. Additionally, we enjoy trying to cook some of our favorite meals. We may not always get it right but we laugh in the experience of trying to recreate the meals we love.
How has wedding planning been so far?
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day. Wedding planning is very interesting. Planning a wedding during a pandemic is teaching us patience and we continue to lean on wisdom.
We look forward to the moment we see each other down the aisle; the very second we both see each other. Shani thinks I am going to cry but we all know Shani is definitely going to be crying. I get seasonal allergies so those tears are different. Lol, All jokes aside, we are anticipating our breath being taken away from the beauty of this journey, from God sending us each other, and selfishly I can not wait to see my beautiful wife in her wedding dress.
