Afro-Centric Glamour: Vibrant Wedding Inspiration

We aimed to create a style that was exquisite and contemporary. We wanted to dispel stereotypes and to showcase that there is beauty in black relationships, We are not bounded by the traditional style of a Euro-centric culture whereby we are led to believe that weddings must consist of “White dresses and dark suits.” For this styled shoot, we threw caution to the wind and embraced Afro-centric colors and styles. Further, the rich color palettes we decided on were to frame and shape a legacy for our younger generation and to help them understand that there is beauty in love. As we created our story for this shoot, we decided to incorporate the whimsical colors of yellow, green and purple to bring the vision to life. The colors fit perfectly into our theme for a Garden Destination Wedding.

Because we were planning a unique event, we knew that we really had to step out of our comfort zone with the wedding dress. Wedding dresses as we know can be mundane and uniformed, we wanted to flip the script and do something that was unconventional but regal .

We wanted to create an Avant- Garde fashion in the form of the dress. The dress created was one that had extreme volume and layers to create a diaphanous dress of gold. We went for an off the shoulder wedding dress with a halter back to showcase the beauty of the model’s skin. We wanted to celebrate the idea of opulence but in a way that defied the standard colors of wedding.

The reception table showcased bold patterns and tones. White and Gold Serpentine table surrounded by green and pink padded Versace chairs with matching Charger Plates and Napkins. Each Place Setting included a geometric Gold Favor Cage.

The Floral arrangement consisted of a long Garland of Purple Hydrangeas with spikes of Purple Dendrobiums and Gold branches. Also framing the centerpiece were bright, gold candles in a glass pillar . We believed nothing else could compliment the style shoot than having a cascading bouquet for the bride of vines, Golden Italian Ruscus, intertwined with white Dendrobiums and yellow Mokara Orchids
