Despite COVID, Byron and Patrecia Buckley celebrate their love in romantic boho-luxe mini-wedding!
The pair were set to finally tie the knot in March of 2020, but then COVID happened. Originally planning to wed in Jamaica’s South Coast in March, they were heartbroken. Instead of postponing their wedding date, they decided to have an intimate “part 1” ceremony in their backyard in Sydney, Australia surrounded by twenty of their closest friends and family. Their family in America, Jamaica, and Canada watched their special day via zoom.
They kept the day fun and whimsical with a romantic red and burgundy color palette, bubbles, and lots of champagne! In spite of their changed plans, they couldn’t imagine a more magical way to officially start their life together as husband and wife!

How they met…
Love finds us in mysterious ways. For Patrecia and Byron, their love story began with a random face recognition Ad on Facebook! After seeing the Ad, Byron took the opportunity to slide into Patrecia’s DM’s to see if they knew each other. It turns out they didn’t know each other or even have mutual connections and they lived in different countries!
With Patrecia in Atlanta and Byron in Melbourne, the odds of a romantic relationship happening between them seemed slim. However, the couple forged a beautiful friendship filled with laughter, letters, and love.
After 12 years of communication, a romantic turning-point weekend getaway in Miami, and job changes that took them across the globe, their lives officially came together in Sydney, Australia in 2018. They’ve been together happily in love ever since!
The proposal…
On August 16th, almost 12 years to the day of the two connecting online, Byron surprised Patrecia with a proposal at the beautiful Hunter Valley Wine Country in Australia.
He looked into Patrecia’s eyes and said: “12 years ago today, you and I became friends. Since then we’ve shared love, and had our fair share of whimsy and serendipity. Today, I hope to add another chapter to our story.” He then dropped to one knee and asked her to marry him (of course, she said yes!).
The ceremony…
Wedding details…
The couple would describe their mini-wedding style as “Boho-luxe with romantic deep reds and burgundy.”
For her dress, Patrecia wanted something “unique, fun, non-traditional and whimsical.” She ended up choosing a gorgeous short white long-sleeved dress with lace and a frilled hem. She paired it with fun, strappy white heels and weaved Baby’s Breath flowers into her hair. She also wore her sisters earrings to represent “their close bond, despite the distance between them on the day.”
Byron sported a cream turtleneck from Muji, blazer and trousers from Politix and shoes from Windsor Smith in colors that complimented their burgundy and dark red color palette.
Together, the pair looked absolutely stunning!
Favorite momories…
One of Patrecia and Byron’s favorite memories was standing at the altar saying “I do.”
They also loved when their friends and loved ones blew “…whimsical bubbles… over [them] as good wishes” after their vows. The photos capture this magical moment perfectly!
Another fave moment for this couple “was popping that first champagne bottle with [their] feet in the grass and smiles from [their] friends [they] love all around [them]!”
Laid-back picnic reception…
Advice for other engaged couples…
The couples best advice is to “do things in the way that matters to you most. What’s most important is that you can look back on your special day and be filled with joy about how everything went.”
Patrecia adds: “Remember that everything doesn’t need to be perfect in order to be absolutely spectacular. For us, we planned our mini-wedding after being so disappointed about having to postpone our wedding in Jamaica due to COVID; however, we made the best of it by having an intimate ceremony and picnic in our backyard, and it was truly the most magical day!”
