It’s time for one of our favorite features – Coterie Spotlight! This week we’re focusing on San Diego Event Planning company, The Posh Knot. In this interview, you’ll get to know more about the Founder, Johnique Woods and her partner Cerita Burrell. Plus, we’re sharing images from some of her styled shoots. Enjoy!
Tell us a little about your background and how you got started in the wedding and events industry?
The Posh Knot was established in 2007 by myself and bestfriend of 15 years, Cerita Burrell. I recognized my passion for event planning in 2007 when I planned my own wedding in 2002 in only three short weeks. From there I always planned my daughter extravagant birthday parties the go to person among friends to plan events and honestly I truly believe hosting is just in my blood. My aunt , grandmother and great grandmother always entertained for as long as I can remember. Cerita received her MBA from the University of Phoenix and discovered her calling for event planning while working in the non-profit sector specializing in gala fundraisers. Together, they we are an unstoppable force, creating one unforgettable event after another.
What did you do before Wedding Planning/Designing?
I worked in Corporate America for two insurance companies.
My dreams are to become a household brand. My first real job was at The Gap. When I think of The Gap starting in 1969 just selling records and levis and now look at them. I know The Posh Knot can do the same!
I love the fact that I am a part of this special time in a couple’s life where they need someone they can trust, lean on and exceed their expectations with all of the details that need to be put in place to make their dream event come true. It is an absolute must that each Posh couple can enjoy their day without worrying about anything but getting down the aisle and having an amazing time with friends and family.
Favorite venues and why?
My favorite venues are the Luce Loft here in San Diego for the smaller more intimate wedding because it is a blank uptown canvas in the ballpark district downtown. La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla because of it’s mystic and great customer service.
What trends are you seeing with 2013, 2014 brides?
I definitely see vintage elements lingering for 2013. I love that the trend now is for brides and grooms to really reflect their true personalities and unique elements in their wedding opposed to trying to please everyone else. I think bolder color accents are also making its way back to the scene such as a dark emerald paired with peach and gold just to name a few.
I can’t stress enough how important it is to have a planner or designer on your team to ensure that they actually enjoy your day. I hear so often that my aunt, cousin, friend who just got married or mother of the bride who has been planning her daughter’s wedding for the last 20 years. However, these are the people who you want to be by your side enjoying your day, not servicing your day. So if you could invest just a bit in hiring a planner at least for the day of definitely consider it. Many of my DIY Brides especially are so thankful that they hired The Posh Knot after it was all said and done because of the amount of work that goes into a wedding.
Having a planner does not mean that you will be left out of the decision making. You are the star of this show and what you say, goes… It is my sole purpose to ensure your dream wedding is executed to a T with a Posh Knot added! I am a firm believer in good old fashioned customer service and that’s what you are going to get from any of us at The Posh Knot. We take pride in developing every intern, assistant or service rep to pay attention to the details that are hidden or not so obvious. It is our mission to provide extraordinary service in addition to Beautiful Events.
Now let’s have some fun!
Favorite song? book? tv show? I have so many favorite songs (music lover for life) Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Soulja (I have read it about 5 times over my adult life. The older I get my perspective on the characters change), Hehe. I still watch reruns of Golden Girls and A Different World. But Scandal has been my recent highlight. Love that Kerry Washington. Guilty pleasure? Southern Sweets: Peach Cobbler and Banana Pudding are my favorites.
