The average business shuts down in less than 5 years according to statistics, but Yemi Osunkoya, Founder of Kosibah, has maintained a prominent presence in the bridal fashion world for 30 years.
Trained at The Paris Academy School of Fashion in London, UK, Yemi Osunkoya started his bespoke gown atelier, Kosibah, in September 1991. This was well before the days of Instagram and Google. Back when he started, inspiration came through fashion encyclopedias and museums and there were hardly any designers that could cater to curvy or not-so-traditional dress measurements. If you wanted a gown that fit you like a glove and accentuated your gorgeous curves, Yemi Osunkoya was the one you called. Thankfully 30 years later, he is still that guy!
Yemi has brought the art of corsetry and structured bodices to the forefront of the bridal fashion world. The result? A perfectly hour-glassed silhouette. It’s his signature.
“No client of mine, regardless of size, wears a bra in my gowns. All the support and structure is created within the dress.”

Today, 30 years after his company was launched, we are happy to celebrate Yemi’s success and ability to sustain an outstanding business through the years. We wish you more fruitful years in the bridal fashion world and look forward to the continued evolution of your brand.
Up next for Kosibah is the launch of his ready-to-wear brand and new bridal collection at the upcoming bridal fashion week. In the meantime, enjoy these photos of some of our favorite Kosibah moments.
