Chrissy and Terry’s chic outdoor wedding at The Chateau Grande Hotel was a celebration full of love, happiness, and culture!
The couple originally wanted to have two weddings; one traditional and one American, but due to Covid, they thought it was best to have one wedding. They incorporated both of their Haitian and Ghanaian cultures into the reception and had an American-style ceremony.
Our wedding was a dream…I wish I could bottle the energy of that day. That’s how much love there was and that’s something we will never forget.

How did you meet?
Terry and I met in college. We both went to school in New York specifically Long Island. I went to SUNY old Westbury and he went to Stony Brook University. We also are members of Black Greek letter organizations and myself being a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated and him being a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. We met in the spring of 2009 at a college house party.
Tell us about the proposal
Terry Proposed to me during a music video recreation shoot. He told me that Steven was re-creating an R&B montage of his favorite music videos and he asked if we could participate. Terry and I love Miguel’s song ‘Adorn’, so we decided we would re-create that.
Leading up to the shoot, everything was going wrong. My outfit didn’t come in time and a lot of the props that we were going to use didn’t come in time. I was super bummed about it. I asked Terry several times if we could postpone it, but he was adamant that we had to do it and that Steven was really counting on us. So I sucked it up and found a black dress and tried to re-create the video as much as I could with what was available to me. Terry asked me to invite my little sister so she could give us pointers and act as a stagehand. He also invited his good friends to do the same.
The day she said “yes”
When we started shooting, the video was playing in the background and everybody was giving us advice on how to pose and what scene we should re-create so I was at ease and actually enjoying the process. Then the final stage came and Steven asked us to face each other. Terry was squeezing my hands ever so tightly, and he was looking at me with the most intense gaze. As he was looking at me, the music started to fade and he said: “Chrissy I’ve loved you since the first day I met you.”. The tears started flooding my eyes because I knew what was about to happen next. The words and what he said during the proposal just melted me, and of course, I said yes.
After that, we stopped at my house because he wanted to take me to dinner and as I entered my house I was greeted by pictures of us lined in the hallway. There were tall candles burning and This is why I love you was playing in the background. As I walked into my living room about thirty of my friends and family screamed “surprise!” and I just lost it. It had to be the greatest day of my life.
Wedding Style
We wanted a very chic wedding. My wedding dress was purchased from Pantora bridal. It was really important for me to wear a dress made by a black woman. I tried on four dresses and my mom, along with two of my bridesmaids, confirmed that the second dress was the one and that is the one that I ultimately got married in. The groom wanted a custom look so his tuxedo was custom-made as well as all of the groomsmen in our party.
Culture
Culture was very happy for us as I am Haitian and my husband is Ghanaian. We wanted to mesh the two cultures together in our reception. Originally, we wanted to do the traditional and the American wedding but due to Covid, we didn’t want to risk exposing guests so we decided to just have one wedding and do a traditional outfit change for the reception. When the bridal party came in they carried flags representing our countries and that really got the party started.
What is your best memory from your wedding?
I would say my favorite memory is coming into the reception hall when they announced us as Mr. & Mrs. Yeboah and seeing the faces of all of our family and friends. Even looking at pictures now it was amazing how almost all of the frames that the photographer caught of our friends and family were genuine ear-to-ear smiles with so much happiness in the air. I wish I could bottle the energy of that day. That’s how much love there was in the world and that’s something we will never forget.
What is the best advice you can give to engaged couples?
DO YOU. When you reflect back on your wedding day you want it to reflect what you and your partner wanted. You do not want your day to be something that people want or something that you are doing for pomp and circumstance. Your day should be reflective of the love that you have for each other
